  1. Great to have the place back! Thanks for all the work, Steve!
  2. I avoided the site for several days when the warning popped up - running Firefox on two different machines. Finally, I tried it on my iPad, figuring if there was a problem, I could simply restore it from my last backup much easier than dealing with issues on my computer. I'm glad you are so trusting to simply disable the warning and keep using the site, not knowing what is really causing it. Me, I'll check in now and then until I stop getting a warning before returning regularly.
  3. I have a bazillion pictures to go through, but here are some of the KC-10/C-5A combo:
  4. For what it's worth: http://worldwar2headquarters.com/HTML/aircraft/americanAircraft/coronado.html Interestingly, the inboard engines had four-bladed propellers which were 2 inches shorter than the three-bladed propellers on the outboard motors. The shorter inboard blades were used to avoid the splash from the hull during take-off and landing.
  5. I got into NY this afternoon for a visit, and after slogging along the Belt Parkway, I stopped at JFK for a while. I miss this stuff down in Charlotte!
  6. Give me a shout, and I'll try to catch up with you, Don. We had a C-5A Galaxy stop in to CLT this afternoon. It's out of the 433th Airlift Wing, AF Reserves, from San Antonio.
  7. Thanks, Don! They are at the Carolinas Aviation Museum.
  8. That A400M is an interesting looking bird. I caught an RAF one at LAS last year. Some neat stuff at CLT today... Gulfstream G-V D-AUTO, owned by the BMW auto company. Three different visiting C-130s. Air Force C-130H belonging to the 910th Airlift Wing from Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio. A pair of USMC KC-130J tankers of VMGR-234 in Forth Worth, TX. Smoke 'em if you got 'em!
  9. It was a busy day around the old air patch today. President Obama came to Charlotte this afternoon. And thanks to some strong storms in Atlanta again, we had a Virgin Atlantic A346 drop in. In a strange set of events, just before they were ready to leave, we had a big thunderstorm roll through, and our daily Lufthansa A330 ended up diverting to Greenville, SC.
  10. Hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday weekend! Here's a look at the fireworks show in Charlotte tonight.
  11. That Huey ride was fun, Murph! I wish I had gotten a few more rides there, but I remember at least a couple that got scrubbed at the last minute.
  12. A hundred years ago (OK, in 1982), when I was in AFROTC, I spent three weeks in a summer program at Holloman AFB, following an officer attached to the Lead In Fighter Training wing. I got three or four AT-38 rides, including one air-to-air ride against another -38. Many years later, I discovered another ARC forum member was also there as a cadet in the program.
  13. I have a PDF of USAF Tech Order 1-1-4 that covers paint schemes and markings. It includes 3-view drawings and FS numbers. It is a 1994 document, with a July 1998 revision. If that fits what you are doing, PM me your e-mail, and I'll send you a copy.
  14. Summer nights, and you have to keep an eye on CLT - thunderstorms in Atlanta caused this KLM 777 to divert until they cleared.
  15. Well, this is starting to get to be routine. ;-) We had another CAVOK An-12 arrive early this morning, UR-CKL this time. Both are on the ramp together, but I wasn't in a spot to get them in the same shot. Sorry if I caused confusion, my "CLT" reference wasn't to the registration, it was to Charlotte/Douglas Airport, KCLT.
  16. We have an Antonov An-12 owned by CAVOK Airlines, a Ukrainian charter cargo operator, paying a visit to CLT!
  17. A few interesting things from CLT today: Charlotte Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) has their aviation unit at the airport, but I've never caught them. Today, one of their helicopters launched, crossed the runways at the south end of the field, then headed north overflying the Overlook - it's backlit, but I finally got one. Elite Airways, a charter operator. I've caught this frame at RDU as well. Grumman Gulfstream II, serial number 1 - the first G-II built by Grumman in 1966. It served as a test and demonstration aircraft for Grumman until 1970, when it was sold to Robert Galvin, CEO of Mot
  18. Thanks! And yes, it is a leased airframe.
  19. World Atlantic Airlines is a charter operator out of MIA - I had to look that up, I had not heard of them before seeing their MD-82 at CLT on Friday. They were flying a charter to Guatamala. Swift Air has been flying weekly charter flights recently. AeroMexico is also flying a weekly charter this summer. A hot day and 36 departures helps with skyline shots. A few night shots from the hourly deck.
  20. The American Airlines "Reno Air" retro-schemed 737 came into CLT this evening.
  21. Back flying the KC-135, we had a early morning flight coming off an alert tour - my aircraft commander had a check ride due before we went TDY to RAF Mildenhall, so we got up at some ridiculous hour to change over with the on-coming alert crew, then go fly. I never slept well on alert, it was a strange bed and there was always some kind of noise in the building. We head out to the jet - neither the dining hall in the facility nor the flightline snack bar was open, so no coffee or breakfast, but off we go. We hooked up with another one of our RT-135s so we could both play tanker and receiver
  22. A hundred years ago, I bought an car model from Revell/Monogram, 1/24 scale Road Runner/GTX type. It was missing the clear red sprue for the tail lights. I wrote to them, including the bar code off the box as proof of purchase. They said the kit was out of production (I had only just bought it, and I don't think it had sat around long at my LHS) and replacement parts weren't available. They sent me an entire new kit of a different car - some Chevy that I had no interest in. So now, I had a kit that was missing parts that I wasn't going to be able to finish, and a complete kit I was never
  23. LIAT - Leeward Islands Air Transport Service Dash-8 arrives at CLT. I've seen this on FlightAware a few times, but this is the first I've caught it. Shortly after LIAT arrived, we had some nasty thunderstorms blow through - ramp was closed for nearly an hour because of lightning, we had heavy rains and gusty winds, and it caused a mess. At one point, they had over 40 arriving aircraft sitting on taxiways waiting for outbound flights to leave their gates. Line of arriving planes waiting to get to the terminal. This was after the worst of it passed through.
