Thank you! I'm much more active in the summer, and this takes a backseat for now. I do have the cockpit detailed for a Snowbird Tutor as well as an F-18 unopened. Dwayne

P51 Mustang The final piece. I wanted the look of freshly fallen snow. And now it collects plenty of dust.

to strip or not to strip...is the question
Black Widow replied to modelmax's topic in Tools 'n' Tips
Strip it and purchase a new decal kit. You can potentially save the exterior with some sanding. That looks like a fun project! -

Geez, that brings back some memories! Good choice for a model, and fantastic work so far! -
Howdy Folks! I must offer a HUGE thanks to Tony Edmundson for his generous offer! Absolutely brilliant! I'm in the process of finishing my Mustang and starting the Tutor. This is still in the experimental phase, but it doesn't look too shabby...It's all done with electrical tape. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/124/3545396...2942bb4d8_o.jpg

The latest... The previous louvres didn't look great, so I used the remaining set with the Sweating Beaver decal kit. Slowly but surely! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/125/3545354...381181918_o.jpg

That's a good tip Colin! I work with bicycles, and there is a cornucopia of small parts to choose from. A piece of derailleur housing can be stripped to expose small strands of wire that will be perfect!

I'll don't know how I'll tackle the bottom yet, as I'm installing the fuel pipes to the exhaust. I think they may be deisel lines for the smoke?? This will definitely take me into the summer...

Great replies everyone! I will be ordering the belcherbits decal kit (although I considered the pre-'92 scheme). I've found plenty of pictures to aid in the detailing - I'm planning on scratchbuilding the engine and some of the cockpit If I really go mad, then I'll get your suggestion on the kit, Big K. Being single has some advantages... :o

Hello All, I just picked up this kit. It will take some work and research, but looks like fun! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/123/3472321...d620efb58_o.jpg

Yes, I have just tried it and it works great! I don't let the putty sit for more than a minute before I swab with the cotton. I do however, use up a few swabs as one is good for only 4-5 passes.

And the glue doesn't smell half-bad either!

Lol! Winter hasn't even started in Toronto yet! I have 9 days off so I'm 'hard at it.' I have run into some fit and finishing issues, so this is a great build in many respects! Dwayne

Moving along nicely now! To make this easier, here's a link to its progress. P-51 Mustang

Another progress shot. I cut a nail to about 3mm in length and inserted it as the stantion tube. Should I seek professional help now?
