  1. Thanx a lot Randy ... your models demonstrate a LOT of thought and skill and I appreciate your words! ... Now, bust out that old LM and get going! ( how can I increase the size of these emojis? like, to 64 points? ) Starting to add Foil to the Descent Stage. Yeah, the image is outta focus ... but you get the idea. It's a pretty tedious part of the build ... Just using household Aluminum foil, and some Foil Adhesive on the back, just cut out and apply. The tool is an old Letraset burnisher I've had for over 40 years ... anybody remember Letraset? It's Dry-Tr
  2. That was an interesting video, thanx for the added value, or the BONUS feature!! I had not heard of Kamag but had heard of, and seen the Mammoet vehicle during some construction in these parts and realized that all the wheels could turn ... to allow for almost 45 degree motion to the side ... I'll assume Kamag is the same. This vehicle is gonna be a nice addition to the overall build, but the casual viewer will have no idea as to the amount of thought and effort you've put into building it ... but we do! Thanx Manfred! Pete
  3. Yeah, I figured ... I DO keep my verbiage to the absolute minimum but ... no harm, no foul! The Aluminum sheet I got from a local small job printer. Once the sheet is used to print business cards, or envelopes and gets exposed to light and inks, they get tossed. So I had had some printing done and asked if they had any sheets lying around ... they did and I got 4 sheets and I've had 'em for about 12 years, using 'em up slowly. And the Eyes, well, close work is getting a little more difficult. I've had 17 needles in one Eye and 3 in the other every 3 or 4 months ... it s
  4. Thanx Gentlemen! CJ ... ominous? ... if you look at the very top post it'll answer your question ... however-r-r-r, I may not be able to attend HeritageCon next month as I'll be getting a couple more "Needles in the Eye" to treat my vision loss. On the Plus side, the Meds DO work! Back to the Ascent stage's antennae ... drill 3 holes and glue in some 0.040 styrene rods for the supports The Resin Rendezvous antenna needed some copper wire to add a final touch ... I drilled four holes and will trim the excess and file 'em smooth
  5. It's ALL those "little things", the "do-dads". the Greeblies that makes these miniatures look as actual as they can ... This is really looking good! Is your reference based on Photos or do you have Engineering Drawings from back then? Keep up the terrific work! Pete
  6. This is excellent information! I had never given any thought to just how the Payload was inserted into the Shuttle ... and this previously unknown vehicle ... I have to wonder if it's used/sold elsewhere or was this a "one-off" used for this specific purpose? Thanx Manfred! Pete
  7. And do you plan to share any of those builds with us Ret? Hm-m-m-m ????? Starting on the Descent Stage, the various struts are pretty spindly so I beefed 'em up by slitting a length of styrene tube and slipping it over the kit's struts ... The discs are the supports for the thermal covering to be installed toward the end. Notice also the added styrene on the tips of the "V' This Resin bit supports the Ascent stage. It's from New Ware. The kit's Ascent stage needed some thicker shims added to the botto
  8. I just saw this here, Jay ... and it looks Terrific! "Chuck" looks really good and is a nice addition to the model, whether we can see him or not! All the viewer needs is an indication that he's in there and we're happy! ;^ D The window frames, did you mask and paint 'em or are they decal strips? Either way, THAT looks great too! Pete
  9. Hey Ret, nice to see we've all survived the "health crisis" ... Thanx Southwest ... a few more 'developments' are incoming. A New Ware bit of resin to add to the Crew Cabin ... plus some of my patching technique to fill in a gap ... An unrelated item, this was a failed, out-of-scale build I had done for my LM cutaway a few years ago. It got pretty far along till I realized it was too large, and had to start over ... I still keep it because, well, I learned a helluva lot building it! Remember, this was my FIRST s
  10. Manfred, this student thanks you for the warm greeting! ;- D Ron, thanks for your anecdote! It's great to read about people who have a direct experience with this remarkable feat of Engineering. To think that the USA pulled together and in 8 ... short ... years ... accomplished this incredible goal. And to see where we all are at this point in time ... sheesh ... Jay, I have a proposed LM on deck but it's this one ... it's been on my bench for 15 months and I hope to git'er dun sooner rather than later ... the windows are just temporarily placed ... plus, it's real g
  11. This old build has been on my bench for quite a few months and there are a lot of intermediate steps I wanna show when rebuilding one of these ancient pieces of plastic ... So where the Rendezvous Antenna mounts, I had to rebuild the entire area, started with a base of styrene and just built it up. I added the New Ware piece and then patched a lot ... Little things like the big gaps, I fill with bits of styrene, nip the ends and fill the remaining tiny spaces with putty ... The New Ware resin needs to be adjusted too b
  12. I removed the kit's "Engine Bell". It was more of an indication and I wanted it a little better represented ... ... and will these post ...?
  13. Okay-y-y-y, let's see what'll get posted today ... I have to add a few 'facets' to this Ascent Stage, so a little cutting and re-structuring and patching is needed ... and here is an example of the brittle aspect of this old plastic, it flakes and breaks ... ... to the next page ...
  14. Hi Randy, thanx very much for the confirmation ... this #@%$&# baffles me ... this morning I had posted 12 images, but it didn't go, and in the past, that's about the limit. My images files are pretty small , but I guess good old Trial and Error is the way to go. Pete
  15. Sheesh ... it looks like this can only handle 4 images at a time! ... that's 4, let's see... nope, will it post 3?... Nope ... 2? ... will you take 2 images? Dammit ... Internal Server Error with 2 images ... I'll try again in a few days ... Till then ... Pete
  16. Alright ... let's see if it can handle a few more pix! This poor thing needs some attention ... ... so I cut it in half! ... and will cut off that webbing by my thumb ... ... and the hatch ... ... and let's see if this posts ...
  17. I tried to post a bunch of images this morning but got an Internal Server Error. So I'm gonna start with 3 images to see ... While doing an inventory on my collection, I realized I don't have an Apollo 10 Lunar Module. Left to Right, is ... Apollo 9 (1/96 scale), 11 (1/48), 12, 13 ( Landing 1/144), 14 (in the stack), 15, 16 (1/72) and 17. A few years ago I scored a trove of old broken, unloved models, Carbon-Dated to 1967 or '68, that I decided to build up. ... and chose this little beauty!
  18. Thanx ... 18" is close enough! Just gives me a good idea for scale!
  19. You did a nice clean job on those solder joints! How tall is the rocket ... 18"?... 2'? I tried soldering PE once and failed miserably ... lotsa blobs ... did you use a flame or a soldering gun to heat the PE? Pete
  20. I'll look forward to finding out if this Transporter drives all-l-l-l the way-y-y-y from the VAB with the Payload canister on its back ... or what the procedure is. This is going to be a another fun aspect to this enormous build Manfred! ( Shake my head ) ;^ D Thanx Manfred! Pete
  21. That Fortune Cookie was indeed truthful! ... but we've all seen you in action and can confirm that message! You keep this thread fresh Manfred, with all these new discoveries ... like this Transporter vehicle ... something I had not ever heard of. And then to follow up with your ingenious solutions, gives that "A-HA moment ... so THAT's how he did THAT!" ... for us all, which keeps us viewers engaged as well! And on the main General Discussion page, a thread appeared asking why the ARC site has decreased in activity overall, so it's not just this Forum, but I AM curious
  22. I wondered if the 1/48 Astrovan was a Plastic kit or Paper model and the little 1/160, I shall assume, is a paper kit ... are they? And I'm not worried about how you'll build the roof ... ;- D The Launch Pad kit, I thought you had one already? Anyway Manfred, I look forward to watching this build for the next 12 months with my stale popcorn and comfy slippers! Let me wish you a very Happy and Healthy 2022 ... it has just GOT to be better than this one! Pete
  23. It is great to see you continuing with this build Manfred! And the tiny 3D printed trucks look amazing ... the resolution of the printing is remarkable and to think that you're going to populate this complex model with trucks as well ... well, let me get some more popcorn! I hope you have as Merry a Christmas as you can have with friends and family and let's hope 2022 will be Happy and Healthy! Pete
  24. This really looks good Randy! I'm certain the new owner is quite pleased with your result! I hope you got paid handsomely for it ... like maybe a full tank o' GAS! I've been watching Spacecraft Films Apollo 16 EVA's and constantly say to myself, this was all done FIFTY ... years ... ago. The Technology, the LRV, its Camera, their Spacesuits, the LM and ... I'm more amazed at the balls on the Astronauts. Including those X-15 pilots. I can NOT imagine our upcoming generation doing this ... Your GORGEOUS model has certainly inspired me Randy! And it would be
  25. Yessirree, it's looking like an X-15 now! Can you ask the owner, or maybe you already know, did the resin come as part of the kit or did the owner toss the kit's parts and buy the resin? Thanx Randy Pete
