  1. Yes - I'm thinking that when the Vietnam a/c came BACK they probably got repainted and fully restencilled, whilst the ones in-theatre were pretty beaten up. I've taken the minimalist approach with this one, but I have a set of Isra stencil decals which I want to try out on a suitable subject! Thanks all for your help! Chris
  2. Yes, it is a short list... HOWEVER... Fox 3 in the US have done a load of aftermarket resin for the F-80 in both 1/48 and 1/72, including all of the different fuel tank types, and the camera nose for the RF-80...
  3. Each of mine is in an A5 display pocket - however rather than using a binder, I use A5 file boxes for protection... Keeps them flat and well protected... Just need a lot of boxes (now have 10!)
  4. Aha... Looking in Patrick Martin's book "Tail Code", it seems that the XC/XN/XT-coded F-4Cs did not have much stencilling, so I guess that's the way I'll go... Hopefully nobody will be able to prove me wrong! Many thanks for the help, all! Chris
  5. Quick question... I'm currently working on an F-4C of the 12th TFW in Vietnam. The photos I have of similar aircraft seem to show little stancilling. Was this generally the case - i.e. was it the early F-4E's and the later 'G's that had the full stencilling applied? Many thanks, Chris
  6. Wow - haven't seem them in ages... Found my sets 2nd hand at a model show a few years ago...
  7. And of course there are the Cutting Edge sets, although you may struggle to find them nowadays...
  8. No - cast in clear resin from a master made from the original kit. The idea seems to work, but I had problems with the resin not curing properly...
  9. I suddenly realised that I hadn't posted any pics of this, other than mentioning it in my original post back in April! AMT/ERTL RF-4C From kit but with True Details seats Markings from Superscale sheet 72-369 for 65-0828 from the 173rd TRS, 155th TRG during the 1981 "Photo Finish" meet Current state of play is that it's primed and I'm just about to start painting...
  10. Current state of play... Most of the unit markings are on - just need to add the stars 'n' bars and stencilling...
  11. Not to mention being used by AFSOC at Howard AFB, Panama, for a few years back in the '90's ...
  12. Mark - you are a very BAD MAN! Not only is this killing my credit card, it means I have so many more decals to review for the SIG site! Keep up the good work! Chris
  13. Give us the details then...how did you paint it?!
  14. Thanks guys - tried out the helo drab/steel approach last night and it looks ok...
  15. That's kind of what I thought... What about the nose of the AIM-9's thugh - it seems to be a different color? Many thanks! Chris
  16. Quick qn... I'm working on a batch of weapons to go on a number of Phantoms/F-16's in 1/72nd scale. I know that the basic color is FS36375 with blue/yellow/brown bands as appropriate. BUT...what color are the fins on the AIM-9L/M/X and the nose and fins on the AIM-120B/C?? Help!!
  17. Well, it's been a while, but more progress has been made... It's now ready for decalling at last...
  18. That's beautiful...and far nicer than mine! :)
  19. They SAY they are - but don't appear to have released anything new for over two years, the website is 18 months out of date and they have not exhibited at SMW for the past 2 years.
  20. Thanks for the compliments guys... Hopefully my next 2 kits (2x F-16C's) will be finished very soon... And my 2nd F-4 isn't too far off decalling.
  21. There's the Aircraft In Miniature vac-form DC-10 - they also did a white metal conversion to the KC-10. Unfortunately I believe AIM are no longer producing kits, but you may find the odd one knocking around... mig23 on the forum is building one - drop him a PM!
  22. I use polystyrene sheet and cocktail sticks... Been doing this for years, going to 4-5 shows a year and NEVER broken anything! It does start to wear through the paint after a few years but that's a minor issue!
  23. Yes... got up at 4.45 ready to go and found a message from my mate (who was coming down with me)... At least HE had the sense to check first, then stay in bed!!
  24. My first F-4 for our SIG display and SMW is now finished - F-4D 66-7751 of the 93rd TFS, 482nd TFW from Homestead AFB during March 1984 in the short-lived "Flipper" scheme. This is the Hasegawa F-4D kit in 1/72, basically box stock but with Quickboost seats and decals from Hi Decal Line. This is also in the F-4 GB...
  25. Hadn't thought about that! I will submit as an article to Steve at some point... Diego - I will email you a couple of the full-size pics so you can use as you see fit. Chris
