  1. Just to add - Aeroclub have had this listed now for 4-5 years, so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it!!
  2. Funny you mention it - I'm building it as we speak! Fit - ok but nothing special. I had some problems getting everything lined up properly as the fuselage halves are slightly miscast Detail - ok, although the panel lines look like someone had a go with a scriber then gave up half way through! Resin - not brilliant, quite "soapy" and lots of bubbles just under the surface Having said that, it's buildable. Mine will be a USAF T-6A Texan II for the USAF SIG display at Scale Modelworld (see my signature)
  3. I normally use appliance white for larger a/c (e.g. my NB-52E) and also used it on my C-21A and C-23A, BUT the stuff I'm painting now is a little too small. The problem with AW is that it tends to be somewhat "orange-peely" and I don't have time to mess around polishing - SMI is getting too close!!
  4. Thanks Ken, We certainly have "stain killer" here - I may try that... Chris
  5. I believe the intakes are quite different?
  6. I have always struggled where I have a white or light paint scheme to apply over a grey or resin base. I recently read a very interesting article in Scale Auto Enthusiast which demonstrated how a coat of sealer, in between 2 coats of primer, will stop the underlying color from bleeding through. I am about to paint a number of AETC aircraft which are mainly white (TG-10C, T-46A, T-3A and T-6A). I would normally use Appliance White, but as these are quite small I will probably use Xtracolor White instead. I don't want to have to apply 10 coats of primer - can anyone advise if they've used se
  7. LONG out of production! I think I build my KC-135A, using that sheet, some time around 1995-6!
  8. I've heard that the Airfix Flanker is pretty accurate
  9. Ironically, in terms of accuracy, the Airfix kit is supposed to be the one of the best, plus it has the stabilisers separate so they can be repositioned. Just needs some additional detail...
  10. Can I vote for ALL of the above? My modelling seems to be falling into the '50's-'70's USAF/ANG at present!
  11. I've tried to buy from them in the past but they don't accept PayPal or credit/debit cards. They wanted payment by Western Union but it's not practical in the UK - it would have cost $20 to use WU for a $16 order!
  12. Airmodel did a kit, and a resin kit is currently available - made by RCR models:- http://www.aviationmegastore.com/?shopid=L...0&art=68047
  13. The Hasegawa kit is excellent - not easy to build as it is designed to build multiple versions - but looks really good, with lots of options (but no weapons of course). The only places where you could improve the details are the cockpit (Verlinden resin set) and the undercarriage bays (which you can't actually see anyway!) All in all, there is little chance of a new 1/72nd kit as this one is so good - what IS needed is for Hasegawa to rerelease it!
  14. I've used various tools now - the BMF is my favourite BUT it's far too delicated - I've destroyed the tip on 4 or 5 now by running over the ruler / guide. I'm currently using a Hasegawa Tritool which I like - I also tried the Mission Models scriber but I find it tends to dig in rather than scribe lines!
  15. You could also try lewisyml0078 on ebay - I got my HP-CH from him. He's based in Hong Kong but shipping was really quick - I got the airbrush, braided hose, water trap and quick connection fitting for £94 shipped - at the time the airbrush ALONE was £176 in the UK!

  17. Thanks guys! Hopefully have some more for you one day soon...
  18. Thanks guys! I should have known that nothing would be as simple as it looks!!! ... Does this mean that aircraft from different units that have the same color tailflash (eg red) could actually be completely different shades? I don't feel so bad that mine are all different now!!
  19. Thanks for the reply Spooky, but it still doesn't answer my question! F-15CrewChief states that paint is ordered by FS number - I'm trying to find out what those FS numbers are for the common squadron bands! I build factory fresh - however this is more a matter of interest as in 15 years of building USAF aircraft, nobody has been able to provide an answer!!
  20. OK guys... So NOBODY on this forum builds USAF aircraft then? Nobody works for the USAF. And nobody knows nuffin'?
  21. So in that case, are there specific FS numbers for the red, yellow, blue and green squadron bands?
  22. Pretty normal nowadays - anything over £18 attracts VAT, together with their "administration fee" - last time I bought a DVD from the US (total cost £26) it cost me an additional £12, most of which was their fee! Talk about ripping us off, then charging us for the privilege!
  23. Following on from the recent thread about the colored bands on weapons, can anyone advise as to whether the tailbands on USAF aircraft follow any standard (e.g. insignia red, insignia yellow etc) or are just what was to hand when the aircraft was painted? I've always wondered but never had a proper answer!
  24. Already in progress! http://www.500phantoms.com/
