    My F-4F

i think it's awesome. why are you sorry you put the stripes? is it not accurate for that scheme? cause they look great, like what i've seen on u.s. phantoms.
  2. i wonder how well the Plasticote spray cans that they use for touch ups would work? i usually don't prefer rattle cans, but hey, if it's the same color they use, why not?
  3. hey chopper, great lookin f-15 except i noticed the weapons arm switch is set to arm, and that would NEVER be like that on the ground  sorry, couldn't resist. seriously, awesome job on that, i wish i could build that nicely. Bill (just stirring up mess, sorry)
  4. another thing you could if you don't want to spray the red first, is to camo the plane, mask the stripe, and paint an undercoat of white, then shoot the red when that dries. It may give you a raised stripe though with that much paint. I would vote for the decal. sometimes i make colored stripes by digging through my old kit decals tha i won't use and finding something the right color, then just cut the stripe the width i need. I've made many 1/48 scale walkways this way by cutting them off of 1/32 scale sheets. just a suggestion.
  5. here is a picture of the stopwatch. i found this on the web. I have a question as well. those indicator lights on the instrument shroud, are those Blue Angel unique or are they on other F-18's?
  6. this may be a stupid question, i don't know alot about the Snowbirds, but why are the tail markings different between the no. 1 and no. 2 jets? it lpoks like no 1 has some sort of shield or badge and no 2 has the canadian flag. is that common? just curious. Bill
  7. this may be a long shot request but does anyone have a pic of the blue angel solo that does the low high speed take off, taken just as the landing gear is on it's way up? i know there are pics, a great one here, of a hornet in transition, but i wanted to see just how low the solo is when he's sucking up his gear so i can display a model like that. thanks in advance. Bill
  8. i can't help but think about the song lyrics, "nothing from nothing leaves nothing..." sorry, it was open, i saw the shot, the shot was clear, i took the shot. Bill
  9. i'd never actually done it myself, but most of the articles i've seen with scratch built wings, they build them similar to the real plane and like the RC guys do it. By making a spar and placing plastic ribs cut to the profile of the wing and then sheet plastic covering that forming the wing surface. i would think that would be the easiest way to do it. anyone else? Bill
  10. it's pretty much like it sounds. Raw umber is the raw color of the clay pigment as it would come straight from the earth. Burnt umber has more of a burnt look to it because it is literally heated up and lightly burnt, so it looks slightly darker. they are both useful depending on the effect you're looking for. bill
  11. i recently bought the CAM decals BA set and they are absolutely beautiful but there was one problem with them. the little BA shield was missing the text "BLUE ANGELS" i've contacted CAM and they said they are fixing the problem and there is a new memorial set supposed to be out soon that has the 2006 season on it. So i would check with them before ordering their decals and make sure you're getting the new ones. Bill
  12. i seriously wish someone would come out with a true T-37 injection kit in 1/48 scale. it's almost as much a shame as how long it took for the t-38 to come out, and that had to be a limited edition kit. I mean think about how many great pilots cut their teeth in the tweet and there's not a kit of it. it makes no sense to me. i would love to build a good 37 for my brother-in-law, but there just isn't anything out there. okay sorry.....i'll quit now. Bill
  13. I can't remember, was the subject of TWEETS considered political or not? or is that religious? i never can get that straight. :D bring 'em on, i love them all. Bill
  14. unless of course you count the area 51 test flights of the crashed craft....i mean....uhh... :) I have always loved the x-15. no nonsense about it, it was built to go fast and that's what it looks like. a rocket with little wings just so the pilots head stays up.....that's flying. Bill
  15. the planes hanging in front of the artwork is an incredible 3-d effect. it's like a whole bunch on mini scenes all working together......impressive display. Bill
  16. I'll add one little thing to this. As far as practice, it can get expensive to just waste paint trying to learn a good procedure, so what i did was buy cheap Wal-mart brand white or grey and practice with that (.99 a pop) if you can get smooth results with that %$&% after practice, you'll find Tamiya paints very easy. that way you don't waste a good can of expensive Tamiya just for practice. Good luck Bill
  17. talk about bursting someone's balloons! :D good job Erik, i'd be proud too for a good haul
  18. all i can say is when i looked at the first few pics i was thinking, okay, i'm not too upset i didn't go, the weather looks pretty ugly......but no, the sun apparently came out and it was perfect!!!!! now i'm $##%#@ i couldn't go. maybe next time. any idea if they are going to do it again and when or where? Bill
  19. just an update for anyone interested. it's going slow as we are trying to sell and buy a house. but i have a couple of pics showing what little progress i've made. just started on the seats. trying to just modify what's there as i would like the cost down so little no aftermarket parts to be used. test fit: early seat work
  20. other than using an ALPS printer, you're pretty much stuck printing on white paper to get white fonts. you could paint the background, but in alot of cases, it would be just as easy to just mask and paint them directly on the model. another thing to try is to put a border around the fonts that matches the color of the area it's being put on. it's pretty tricky getting the colors to match, but if you cut really close to the edge, and experiment getting th color as close as possible, it will look pretty good. as far as scaling up decals,Mook is right, you pretty much need to have a vector drawi
  21. surely at some point in the design phase, SOMEBODY had to look at a plan and say "Hey guys, know what this looks like?" I mean it was built what, maybe a decade or so after the war. This had to be noticed. well at least they didn't landscape it in a field of roses with a circle of white carnations around the building.
  22. very nice job. awesome paint and great weathering. on a side on note, the sunlight on the table going thru the trees looks like clouds. i would swear if the gear were up that would be a perfect in-flight shot. awesome job. Bill
  23. i don't know if you're interested, but i have and extra set of the small tanks. not the ones that mount on the very end, but the ones that mount on the bottom of the ends of the wings. I actually had to ask someone here for the larger tip tanks myself. if you want the small ones, i'll be glad to send them to you. Bill
  24. i have one VERY VERY important question. is reference to a tweet considered political? :D Hey Steve, keep up the good work and we just want you know, we're all counting on you and we're behind you all the way......WAAAYY behind you. :D Bill
  25. Omar, these are AWESOME. i like that it has almost a Christmas feel to it. you captured the feel of a snowy theme perfectly. and it's cool that's it's cartoon without being too cartoon. if you had just said, "i'm gonna design it with a cartoon tiger throwing a snowball" i would have thought you crazy, but this!!! I give ya two thumbs way up. <_< thanks for posting Bill
