  1. oh the things you hear at airshows! I sat and listened to one man "teach" his child about how the travel pod on a t-38 was the "BIG ONE", the one they dropped on the Japanese to end the war. i just about burst trying not to laugh.....everyone knows those are only dummy "BIG ONES" they carry at airshows.
  2. does anyone know where you can find a good walk errrrr swim-around of a tuna? All I have seen is a trout, a couple of vietnam era bass, and a flounder....tuna's are hard to come by, not to mention to two-seat tuna!
  3. If anyone is interested, I sprayed some of this new latex-based spray paint on an old hasagawa f-4 bottom. It seems to lay down pretty smooth and didn't really fill in the panel lines too much. It actually seemed to be just a tad bit thicker than regular Krylon, so it may work really well on kits with too deep panel lines (ahem dragon p-51). Some of it was sprayed on bare plastic, some over year old MM enamels, and some over airbrush inks. I am gonna let this dry for a few days and then spray various things over it and see how it sands out. I'll try to post a pic of this experiment if anyone r
  4. yea, you should look them up, they are a great bunch of guys who always support our contest. Lee Forbes is the only name i can remember off the top of my head. if you look them up on the ipms website, i'm sure they probably have meeting times and locations listed. i bet they'd love to see your stuff and welcome you. i understand their contest is awesome as well, i just have never been able to make the trip with our club members. anyway, keep posting pics. i'm learning alot here. Bill
  5. i think it has to do with color scheme and lighting. like christopher states, the nose wheel looks too big on both kits, but i think because his is photo'd with the nose gear mostly in shadows, it doesn't stand out as much. the up-lighting on the other pic really shows off the problem, plus it appears to be canted slightly towards the viewer, add to that a funky (in a good way) paint scheme and it compounds the illusion imho. oooorrrr.....it could be that it doesn't have a false canopy!!!! <_< see they work! sorry, it had to be said. Bill
  6. awesome job bjorn!!! i hope to build mine half that well.....someday btw, do you happen to come down to SWAMP model club's CALMEX in Louisiana with any of the San Antonio group? Just curious, cause your work looks like one the guys from the club over there. top notch all the way. Take care. Bill
  7. well i went ahead a bought a can of white since i saw it at Wal-mart last night. if noone else has tried it, i will try it out on a scrap model and see what it does. i guess it's too much to ask that they produce them in all the major FS number colors. Bill
  8. awesome work man! the only thing i could suggest, and this is very minor, is to maybe add a very little shading in the creases of the cusions and lightly highlight the tops of them. the weathering on the seat frames looks great, just a little to show the difference in metal and fabric would really make them sing! of course it could just be the flash of the camera. Bill
  9. has anyone tried krylons new h2o latex spray paint as a primer or even as a finished coat? I have used regular krylon before, but being water based, it is a very appealing idea if it works. any thoughts or experience with it or tips on how to prepare for it? Bill
  10. any chance i could come camp out in your backyard per chance to see that sucker? :D love that plane.....hope you get better pics as well. Bill
  11. thanks guys, i'll have to try some of that. now i just need to go appeal to the originator of that great build and beg for a photo recap. :D Bill
  12. is there anyway to "restore" this thread to put images back in? sounds like an incredible and educational build. I have the "d" model and hopefully will get to building it someday (if i ever get to build anything someday!!!) I would love to see what he's done step by step. that brings up another question....maybe a dumb one but here goes. is there anyway for a person to somehow save a thread? I mean like an individual to DL a thread to save as reference? i know i have come across some thing on here only to find later the pics were missing or not able to find it...i would love to be able to ha
  13. Thanks G.G.. I have found a few pics on Carrier builders web site, but it's mostly just the external shapes. There are a lot of area that are exposed, that i can tell have a load of detail, but there just aren't any good pics of those areas. I've scratched a 1/350 before, but for anything 1/144 or bigger, I really need more detail. Any thing you have would be great. I guess the positive of not finding anything is, I could just fake those areas and chances are, nobody would know any different. ;) Thanks, Bill
  14. Very cool idea, but wouldn't the PC term be "mentally challenged" bombs? ;) Can't wait to see the pics of this one, interested in action dio ideas all the time.
  15. I may be able to send a hasagawa vf-32 107 "shuttle memorial" 1/72 scale bird. We just recently had a baby, so my build time has been cut considerably, but I will see what I can do. Sounds like a good cause and a fun challenge. Bill
  16. I can't remember the name of the company, but someone makes/made resin 50 cals with brass tube 2 piece barrels. it was an inner barrel with an outer pre-drilled cooling jacket. They looked amazing. I saw them on a monogram b-17. If I run across the name again I'll post it for you. Bill
  17. No problem Mark. Thanks for the help. I can't view the pics here at work, they block them somehow on our server, so I'll have to wait til tonight when i get home. Thanks again for everything. Tell your buddy to take care of himself and our thoughts are with them. I'm actually working on a carrier model off and on as well. If he had some detail pics of the tilley crane, he would become an even bigger hero of mine. lol. well take care, Bill
  18. Thanks scooby. I had a feeling they wouldn't carry a full load of avionics. It didn't make sense to me for them to carry all that extra weight and have more things that could go wrong when most of it wasn't needed. I know in the grand scheme of things, if my bays aren't 100% right, I doubt a judge would call me on it, but with my luck, one of the judges would be and ex-BA plane captain, and it was his plane, AND IT WAS WRONG!! Thanks for all ya'lls help. Bill
  19. Hey Mark, If you could find those pics that would be AWESOME . I was guessing since they have the guns taken out, that maybe some of the targeting equipment and what not might be gone as well. Photos would really really be helpful. Thanks. Bill
  20. Hey, I posted this in Jet Modeling, but someone here probably knows the answer. I decided to go ahead with my hasagawa f-18b no. 7 Blue Angel. To add a little visual interest to the single color scheme, I decided to open up some bays and panels. I ordered the Aires avionic bay set. My question is, can I use them as is, or do the B.A. take out some of the boxes and have a more empty looking bay? If anyone knows about this, and better, has pictures with the BA bays open, please help. Also, are the radars the same? Any info would be really appreciated. Thanks, Bill

  22. thanks for the info, unfortunately the tractors are considerably different from today's tilley cranes. Although that may be a good source for the large tires I'll need. have a great one Bill
  23. I think this poor guy had a little engine failure! Who knew after all this time, the real power of the plane was Hank running on a squirrel cage. Bill
  24. Thanks for ya'lls input. I discovered i was using some very old easy off. It apparently lost it's chemical properties. I tried again with a fresh can and sure enough, about 10 minutes later some nice grey parts totally stripped of the chrome. Thanks everyone. Bill
  25. didn't mean to stir anything up. i just thought it was funny. if people here are that uptight about one airplane vs another.....i think the cap on the glue needs to be tightened. its just an airplane folks....love em all Bill
