  1. I have the same kit WIP on my shelf of doom. Try cutting a small shape to match the bottom in very thin plastic card and laying over the top of the seam. Essentially creating a false bottom, if you use really thin stock then you can trim with scissors and a hint of Tamiya extra thin cement fixes it in place. Also works for ejector pin marks between ribs etc in wheel wells.
  2. Lovely little helo. Thanks for sharing & nice work.
  3. Thanks Diego this one will be a RAAF Vietnam slick. Sorry Rod but I'm only allowed a couple of WIP pics as this is a review build for another site.
  4. Here's where I'm at with my interior. I scratchbuilt an early hoist. Also did a bit of work to the seats.
  5. I reckon I've seen at least 4 distinctly different types of rescue hoist. The german one does seem to be unique and the most boxy. Good shot above of the bubble windows in use.
  6. Testing using Smugmug. 14 free trial so far so good. Quite easy to use - I will probably subscribe to their basic plan $48 USD / year. I think that's affordable as I was already paying the PB pirates to be ad free.
  7. These are the non armoured seats used on the Aussie Hueys. Looks like the kit seats could be wrangled into something similar with some scratch work. The support frame structure looks lose enough as a start.
  8. It's funny you know. About March this year I got so fed up with the ads on PB I upgraded my service to Ad-Free 2Gb. Can't remember how much but it wasn't excessive so I ponied up just to make it usable. My pics are still visible now but I assume that because I have a current contract my pics will dissappear as of 6th March 2018 when the new rules catch up with me. I certainly won't be spending any effort to update any previous links. Way to go to PB, alienate many thousands of customers all in one go Give yourselves an uppercut for being so stupid PB owners - time to start loo
  9. Pilot doors look like they fit well closed. How was the fit on the chin windows?
  10. Thanks Glen I'll send an email about the decals - I'm doing the review build for "The Modelling News" site. Just so we are on the same page. I have what looks like a full production kit although I have just received it to do a review build so it might be an early shot. The pic below shows the lover nav light position. I have scoured the sprues and instructions looking for a pair of pieces that go here but found nothing. As I said no big deal really as it wont be that hard to make something to go there. There really is a lot to like abo
  11. Anyone else spot that the lower nav lights are missing. There is a small base there on either side below the jump doors with a divit in it but no part anywhere on the sprue. Add this to the scratchbuild list - no big deal. Don't think I'll be using the kit decals - mine are badly out of register , particularly the blacks. The German flag looks like a tetris puzzle and the word Danger on the tail rotor warning is so far out it's not even contained within the red arrow. Hopefully my spares box will help me out there.
  12. Sorry for the ol' The same antenna is on the UH/HH-1N as already stated ( USMC / US Navy / USAF & Canada) and it was also on the RNZAF UH-1H and the RAAF UH-1B ( Ironically haven't seen it on RAN UH-1B) Fortunately I have a couple of Italeri D & N kits that are parts donors - probably should refine the part and master it for casting. Good news is that an early Vietnam RAAF UH-1H can still be done without it.
  13. Ha Ha Ray that's funny - you asking us for Huey pics ! Here is a close up of the aerial on a museum aircraft but I believe it is the same item. It definitely has a forward facing side.
  14. OK quick question : What is this circled antenna for? My guess might be DME or VOR or something like that. Inquisitive minds would like to know. It was available in the old Italeri kit. Whilst this is a more modern pic the RAAF Hueys definitely had this mounted towards the end of Vietnam involvement. It is missing from the new KH sprues unfortunately.
  15. Can someone tell me what that white teardrop shaped lump is on the roof ? I can't find any pics which clearly show it. Either way if looks like its replaced with a flat plate of some sort in the builds I want to do.
  16. Good intel on the introduction of those custom ammo bins. Thanks RGS and Ray I had not read that page before. Now I'm even more pumped to try the project out.
  17. I didn't think the pyramid ammo cans came in until after Vietnam but I'm happy to be wrong on that one. I'll have to find some M-60's in 1/48 with butt stocks not handles. They also changed the feed chute to go through the jump doors - I assume less bends means less jams.
  18. Thanks for the info on the ammo can Ray. As for the bushranger parts - looks like a fair bit of scratch building ahead. Our rocket pods had separate tubes, which I'll probably make from brass. Can't remember if I saved the gunship parts from the old Esci kit but they might come in handy as well. Looks like the twin mount M-60's used the larger 20mm cans and loose belts.
  19. I'm thinking white metal would be the perfect material to cast ammo chutes out of - they're flexible ( guns could be placed in any attitude), already silver coloured etc. - Aftermarket guys? These are the M23 system on RAAF Hueys in Vietnam, I don't know which ammo boxes these are. I'll be ditching those brass bags on mine. Unfortunately the extra armaments, Rocket pods etc in the kit are no use for an Aussie Gunship - they look more like parts leftover from their UH-1Y project.? But the bottom mounts may provide a good starting p
  20. Anyone else notice what looks like M134 miniguns on sprue A ? Parts 55 & 56
  21. I can't wait to see what can be done with this kit. I'm sure there must be literally hundreds of decal options to think about and a good base for some aftermarket to bling it up a bit.
