Hi Tracy: David Doyle has a couple of books, including one specifically on the B-17F: https://daviddoylebooks.com/piston-engine-aircraft/b-17f-flying-fortress-visual-history-mblpd https://daviddoylebooks.com/piston-engine-aircraft/b-17-flying-fortress-vol-2-boeings-b-17e-through-b-17h-in-world-war-ii-legends-of-warfare-aviation-hardcover-february-28-2021-pltww Cheers, Scott

Perhaps it's just my eyes, but while I can clearly see the white demarcation on the fixed part of the wings, the pylons, the drop tanks, and the engine nacelles, I find it very difficult to see the white underside of the nose; it appears to be grey overall. Is it just poor eyesight on my part ,or is this some marking anomaly? Cheers,

How are you adding shelves? I've got some of those cases and could definitely use the extra shelf space in them. Cheers, SCott

The Stratolaunch Roc would, I think, be the largest airplane in the world at this point - certainly larger than the A380 in every way except height, and with a larger wingspan than even the AN-225. Very sad that, on top of all of the other tragedies in Ukraine, this aircraft was destroyed. Cheers, Scott

I very much look forward to this sheet in 1/72! Looks great. Cheers, Scott

Felt like the airshow started early this past weekend - had a CF-18 visiting and a Harvard popped in as well.

It's going to be a drive-in show again, like this year's, so no ground displays.

Very nice. I await an early 1960s version with Skybolt! Cheers, Scott

Anyone built the Bandai Thunderbird 2?
Scott Taylor replied to The Rat's topic in General Discussion
I believe that the Imai, Imex, and Bandai kits are all from the same moulds. I've got the High Grade Version of the 1/350 kit (along with the Thunderbird 2 pod bay). I'd love to see the International Rescue vehicles get the 21st century Bandai treatment (or Fine Molds - I'm not picky! :-)). Cheers, Scott -

There have been Thunderbird 2 kits from Bandai/Imai out since the late 1960s, I think (I have a photo of a very young me on Christmas day 1969 with a Thunderbird 2 and 2001 Orion clipper built by my dad kicking around). The TB2s have ranged from a huge 1/144 kit to a 1/350 model that's quite nice (I've got that one - it has raised panel lines, however, and some versions have metal landing gear and engines) to a box scale one that I think is the oldest. It has soft plastic foldable landing gear legs and is overall the least good of the kits. At least the 1/350 version I have is molded in pretty -
I'm really looking forward to it as well, although we have been somewhat lucky in London having RCAF Chinooks and Special Ops Griffons visiting this summer, as well as the L-39 Albatroses and L-29 Delfin from the International Test Pilots School flying around regularly. I'll miss the ground displays, though. Cheers, Scott

That box art is amazing on so many levels. One of my favourite touches is the smiley face that replaces the swastika in the Afrika Korps insignia on the fender.

That's what things like seatbelt and helmet laws are intended to do - indeed, most traffic laws are intended at least partially to protect you from yourself. The same goes for laws restricting access to dangerous areas. If the individual does not have the obligation to follow such laws, does the government have any obligation to help that individual if he or she needs help after violating those laws? There's a lot of EMS and search and rescue that helps people who have knowingly done stupid things, and all of society pays for that help. Cheers, Scott

This appears to be one step closer to happening: https://www.defense-aerospace.com/articles-view/release/3/210694/german-defense-minister-commits-to-buying-f_18s-to-replace-tornado.html 30 F-18E/Fs and 15 EA-18Gs. Cheers, Scott

If they get SU-35s or SU-57s I'd wonder whether they were going to stay in NATO.

B-52H from Minot added to static. Hooray! -
What he is saying is that Turkey was treated unfairly about the Patriot vs. S-400, and is also, as I understand it, that messing around with them over the F-35 program is not great. That certainly seems to be an undercurrent in just about every story I read. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting this, but it doesn't appear to me that Trump's statement is reinforcing what I thought was the American position on the S-400 purchase and F-35 participation.

Yes, but the Stepper Across the DMZ now says that Turkey has been "treated very unfairly" over this whole S-400/F-35 thing (it was Obama's fault): http://www.defense-aerospace.com/article-view/release/203992/in-u_turn%2C-trump-now-says-turkey-treated-unfairly-over-s_400-deal.html There's apparently a bit of a disconnect between the President and the "Deep State" (USAF, Department of Defense, etc.) on this issue. Cheers, Scott

When we were at Whiteman in August, we did two laps around the perimeter of the base and saw a pair of B-2s take off. It's definitely worth your while to go by. There's a nice B-29 at the gate as well. Good luck spotting! Cheers, Scott

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any mention yet of the aerial combat between India and Pakistan that started after Indian Mirage 2000s attacked targets on the Pakistani side of the border in Kashmir yesterday. Aside from the concern we should have over hostilities between two nuclear powers, I find it interesting that India would send MiG-21s into combat in 2019. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/india-confirms-loss-of-mig-21-in-pakistan-skirmish-456148/ I understand that a second Indian aircraft and a Pakistani aircraft (F-16?) have also been shot down.

At first I thought that "Integrating the Interim Fighter Aircraft" image was a joke, until I saw it in a press release. Cheers, Scott

One of those CH-146s landed at my daughter's high school this morning! I never had anything so cool happen when I was in high school. Lots of stuff in the air coming in for the show yesterday and today. Really looking forward to it. Cheers, Scott

Not today, but a couple of weeks ago on our way to the IPMS Nationals in Phoenix, we spent a day in North Las Vegas photographing Red Flag 18-3 participants. I really enjoyed watching fairly high-intensity air operations. Would have liked to see the B-52s and the Colombian Kfirs that were there fly, but what we did see was great. Cheers, Scott
