  1. Condor, RV and Fujimi all did an SMT in 1/72. Dragan built the Condor one which look quite decent, maybe he can give his opinion on the kit. But since Gabor S is working on a bis conversion for the Eduard kit, maybe we can pressure him into producing an SMT conversion kit 🙂 Gabor are you listening?! 😉 Oh, and I need two bis conversion sets for pick up at the Kecskemét airshow please 🙂
  2. Wow, nice build! You don't see 1/72 E-8s too often...
  3. Thanks for the info Gabor, although it isn't the best news for MiG-21 fans in the 1/72 scale. I think Eduard (and also Mr.Sulc) has a preference for WW2 aircraft, you just have to take a look at the monthly Eduard online magazine to realize WW2 does it for them.
  4. For the bis variant I'd choose the Zvezda, because the KP kit is older and supposed to mimic an MF if I am not mistaken. Still hoping we'll see an Eduard UM at some point in time, but certainly not holding my breath..... If you would like to add just 'any' variant to your collection, just to have a MiG-21; go with Eduard!
  5. There were 1133 MiG-21UMs produced....Add the U and US and you approach 1700 aircraft. A lot of kits out there of aircraft with a very tiny production run, wel below 1133..... Also, I believe most if not all airforces operating the M/MF/bis operated the UM. So a very wide variety of colour schemes available for us modellers to reproduce 🙂 But I can wait till 2023, and then I'll take ten please 🙂
  6. So many countries fly/flew the twoseater UM! I don't understand model companies sometimes.....
  7. They closed the store in August 2020.
  8. Don Spering passed away in 2017.....
  9. And my F-4EJ Kai yellow special arrived on Friday, so it seems our boxes were indeed in the same container! Although the price quoted on the box was above the tax limit, it arrived at my house without the customs mark-up....
  10. As a guy with many Phantoms in the stash: this is a very informative thread guys, keep it up!
  11. Sorry, should have been more clear. Jastreb has more guns in the nose (three) than Galeb. But very often the barrels are not visible (when guns are not installed). The above picture shows a Galeb indeed, compare it to the (N)J-21 Jastreb nose: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/166844361168242002/
  12. The NJ-21 Jastreb is basically a G-2 Galeb but has guns in the nose and structural improvements to be able to carry a payload (on underwing pylons). Niels' reply reminds me of a heated discussion I once had with a Slovenian G-2 Galeb pilot who insisted there were no Jastreb dual seaters around. He had to eat his words, much to the amusement of his lovely daughter, when I showed him pictures to prove it. So there is: -G-2 Galeb (dual seat) -J-21 Jastreb (single seat) -IJ-21 Jastreb (single seat recce) -NJ-21 Jastreb (dual seat)
  13. Any news, they chose the schemes to be used? I've seen pictures of former VFC-12 Legacy Hornets now in VFA-204 markings, so we must be getting close to seeing the first VFC-12 Super Bug!
  14. Those bombs are GBU-24, not Rafael Spice. To carry AIM-120s, you will need the LAU-129 launcher and not the older 16S210 launchrails.
  15. Fine Molds stands out from all the other Japanese kit makers as they are located a staggering 65 km (40 miles) away from Shizuoka 🙂 Companies like Tamiya, Fujimi, Hasegawa, Platz, Asuka are either from Shizuoka or very closeby (Hasegawa). It seems these companies are all related in one form or the other....
  16. I'll post here immediately upon receiving the kit, Stefan. Let's see if they were really in the same container 🙂
  17. The trouble with unguided munitions is that you have to get closer and lower to the target and fly a predictable pattern making the airplane more vulnerable to ground fire. Even though it's a flying tank 🙂
  18. I value your opinion and that of others! Usually I try to read as much opinions about new models as I can, but the decisive factor for me is always my own experience with it. If I like it; I will buy more. If not, I'll stick to Hasegawa; simple. In other news: Yesterday (wednesday 17 March) three JASDF Phantoms of the testunit made a last flight from Gifu airbase. The Phantom no longer flies in Japan. The very first JASDF Phantom, number 17-8301, was part of this formation. Phorever in our hearts!
  19. I'll buy that when it comes to bombs under the fuselage stations. But they also carried S-24, B-8M and UB-32 rocket(pods) there. They probably just didn't want to remove or upload the centerline tank each time they switched to freefall bombs or vice versa...
  20. They didn't use a centerline fuel tank with any of the A-G weaponloads? That's remarkable
  21. Just got word from Hobby Search mine is underway...by boat Interesting to read it does have its problems. I have built quite a few Hase F-4s and will carefully compare the ease of building with the Finemolds example. I am all for accurate kits with fine detail but if they are a dog to build then I'll pass. Still have 25+ Hase, three Fujimi and an Esci F-4 in the stash, including four F-4G 🙂 so no shortage of 1/72 F-4s in the near future
