  1. Spurred in part by the LED thread elsewhere, I figured I should post an update (though it feels like screaming into the void...). I've been picking away at this, slowly but surely. Last summer was spent on the electronics - apparently it's not enough of a challenge to design an build a 6' long model kit, I also had to add lights, sound and motion. I believe they call that 'mission creep'. 😞 So... a basic schematic of the electronics inside. And focusing on the lights and motors. It's been simplified to not show every single
  2. Yes, but it's not a KH kit. It's Kinetic. πŸ™ƒ Sure it's a bummer they're not there, but it's a long way from arguing about the pooched F-16 nose, or awful buildability of the Prowlers. If that's the biggest issue with the Pucara, it's probably worth taking a deep breath to appreciate how far they've come before voicing the complaint. On the plus side, Kinetic tend to do subsequent releases, and this is an easy fix, so if they're aware that modellers want instrument decals in the kit, hopefully the next Pucara variant (Falklands war? Special markings?) will include t
  3. Well first and foremost, if you bought the actual 'Grain of Rice Bulbs' from Micromark... they're not LEDs. Just hook them up to a 9V or 12V battery and you're good to go. For routing through your model... there isn't really a set method; you just have to do whatever works. In your case, you may need to drill through the outer wing panels, to run wiring through the wings and into the fuselage. Or you may need to scribe a channel for the wires into the outer wing panels, then fill and sand flush. Whatever works. For sourcing actual LEDs, first, see the size comparison here: Ea
  4. Aww, I thought it'd be more challenging than that. It is indeed a Drachenballoon. 1/144 (they're surprisingly large), designed in Solidworks and printed on my Photon. And far and away the most explicitly phallic looking modelling object I've ever seen! πŸ˜„ The full balloon is done in two halves so it's a simple assembly. Roughly placed together here, but after grinding out the base and giving the halves a quick sand, it's a perfect fit. (the halves are hollow, with 2mm thick walls so it's very robust, but the base of each half cupped slightly when curing. easy to remove with
  5. Pic of my latest WIP. Any guesses? 😁 (hint: it's upside down)
  6. Glad I haven't started work on the aftermarket pods I'd planned to do. πŸ˜„
  7. Yeah, the answer to the OP is 'learn how to use an airbrush', not to buy a different brand.
  8. Yup. https://www.renaissance-models.com/ter/index.php/avions-toutes-echelles/echelle-1-48/produits/2549-mica-em-1-48e https://www.renaissance-models.com/ter/index.php/avions-toutes-echelles/echelle-1-48/produits/2550-mica-ir-1-48e
  9. Tapchan posted pictures from the show Narcos, showing Pablo Escobar looking sad while in hiding. I posted a picture from the same show, after he'd been caught (and executed). Though I see how it could be misinterpreted. Note the camera man and sound guys, though.
  10. Nope, it's definitely not, because when the mediocre Airfix kits were released, all the Brits said the holes were impossible to do in 1/72. So you must be mistaken. πŸ˜‰
  11. Thanks guys. And it is indeed Solidworks, though Fusion360 should do much the same things if you're looking for free software. Oh, and Peter, I found the single biggest hurdle was just thinking through the sequence of operations needed to produce something. I'm entirely self taught, through a combination of experimenting and Googling, and my first few models involved a lot of deleting-once-I-was-halfway-through-because-I'd-done-things-out-of-sequence. The models above are all done with simple operations (revolve, extrude, loft, chamfer/fillet), so the only 'trick' is being able
  12. No, they do not need to be "RealSpace" brand model kits. You can post any actual, non-fictional space vehicle here.
  13. Minor update to this thread (squashing a rumor, mostly). It has been suggested elsewhere that Express Hobbies in Saskatchewan stock MRP paint. THEY DO NOT. I reached out to them and was told that no, they do not stock MPR, nor do they have a distributor for them. Once again, someone has confused MRP with Mr. Color. πŸ™„ I guess that whenever you ask about it, you should say "Does anyone sell MRP Paint, the stuff in the Alclad-like bottle?' Or just, "Does anyone sell this stuff? "
  14. It's a necro-thread, Dave. So the 'new' news when it was posted was the first post in that ww1aircraftmodels thread
  15. Heads up Steve, that post above yours is probably about to become a spammer.
  16. Wow, I'm overwhelmed by the response from everybody. Here's another update: Not a whole lot visually different, but I've re-built the entire model. Most of my horizontal dimensions were slightly out, so I had to revise... pretty much everything. I also added the cockpit and observer's windows and landing gear wells, and proper rounded wing tips. With the basic structure more or less done (though I'll probably add panel lines, eventually), I could start adding proper details: Kind of hard to show everything in one shot, so hopeful
  17. Had a fit of inspiration this morning, so hit the CAD: This is the second WvB shuttle design, based on an article in Collier's magazine. The rocket itself is largely similar in overall shape, but the shuttle itself is significantly different, with swept canards and wings and a tailless design, vs. the delta shape of the original. Apparently there is speculation that this is closer to his 'intended' shape, and the original was 'massaged' by Disney for aesthetics. It's big though. Significantly bigger than the Disney version: Still
  18. Reading through those threads... how much do you want to bet that if/when the official news does come out, a bunch of people are going to try pinning the blame on people who discussed the subject on discussion boards? I can totally imagine a few of the participants claiming that "people spreading rumours" put WnW out of business...
  19. Saw these linked in a news article about the recent missile test. They're from a DPRK propaganda website, but since it's *really* hard to find references for North Korean jets, anything is a welcome addition to the library. https://dprktoday.com/abroad/great/1186 Click the arrows at the bottom to scroll through for other pics. (I kinda dig the camo, actually)
  20. I would have thought this would be making bigger waves here on ARC. It seems that Peter Jackson is in tax-related/political hot water in New Zealand, and that Wingnut Wings will (very likely) be shutting down as a result. Per Richard Alexander, the GM of WnW, a it's not finalized, but it does look pretty grim. Apparently a decision should be reached next week or so. And it seems this is not related to COVID-19 or the economic implications thereof. It seems to be the result of broader shake-ups in Jackson's world. I wonder if Trumpeter will finally release the kits i
  21. They didn't. Hasegawa distributed Monogram kits in Japan, so they're branded Hasegawa/Monogram, the same way that MRC used to brand their imports MRC/Hasegawa, MRC/Academy and MRC/Fujimi in the past.
