  1. Ok guys and gals. For those of you who couldn't make it to Omaha this year, here are some pics to see what you are missing. https://picasaweb.google.com/phil13/2011IPMSUSANationalsOmahaNE?authkey=Gv1sRgCLqWicDNy_L3lgE https://picasaweb.google.com/phil13/2011IPMSUSANationalsOmahaNEPart2?authkey=Gv1sRgCOve-4Od3ujSEg
  2. Was hoping to make Omaha this year but the death of my son has screwed up everything. Looking forward to doing DisneyWorld next year and would love it to be in Colorado Springs in '13 (I live in Salt Lake which is actually pretty nice no matter what they think in Canada B) ). We have 3 active clubs in Utah and with the Hill Aerospace Museum, Ft Douglas and the Model Car Museum, there is lots to see. But CS is less than a day drive so all good. Oh, and I would love to go back to Toronto some time (and Hamilton and the Falls) but you have to get a passport now which is a pain.
  3. Went to a free showing with my daughter yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I expected. In fact, I kind of liked it. Ok, I haven't seen the Hulk movie or either Ironman film so most of those references went right over my head. In fact, only Marvel movies I have seen were the first two Spiderman films, first Fantastic Four film and the X-Men shows. Was more of a DC guy in my youth. That said, the story was pretty good and I liked the characters. Might make it to Capt. America and sure my oldest will get me to the Avengers. Maybe I need to find some time to watch his copies of the Ironman movies
  4. Hmm, FedEx or UPS? Probably should be Canadian Post but from what I hear, that would really make it a What if.
  5. Anyone know if the Fusion would react to vinyl? I have a figure kit that I need a good black and white for and wonder if it will melt the fig.
  6. You guys did click the "Save the Strat" link at the bottom, right?
  7. Finished posting the rest of the pics. 219 in the album.
  8. In 2005, a guy my Dad knows, went to Iraq. Tom Humes was a Blackhawk pilot with the Delaware Army National Guard. He started sending pictures and stories to my Dad who, of course, forwarded them on to me. When I started asking questions, Dad put me in touch with Tom. Tom agreed to let me publish his pics on our clubs (now defunct) gallery. These were pretty popular at the time so I finally started putting them up on one of my Picasaa Web sites. Been working on this for 2 days and still have another 20+ emails to go thru. I have added Tom's commentary to some of the pics and my own take
  9. Yep, real thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasecki_VZ-8_Airgeep
  10. This is a little contest I run over on whatifmodeler. This is the 3rd year I have done this. If you have a little time, come take a look. http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,31761.0.html
  11. Yep, only we do it all year long. And a lot of the Silly Week what if models you see are the work of whiffers.
  12. This is a little contest I run over at whatifmodelers.com. The awards ceremony is run opposite the Oscars but the final is underway. You can check out the Voting threads (there are 19 of them this year) and look at the past awards shows. http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/board,72.0.html
  13. Not sure how this idea would work on a large site like ARC but I do run a similar idea over on Whatifmodelers that is now in it's 3rd year. True, it is mostly done in jest and I run it along the lines of the Oscars (and usually have the awards on Oscar night). Learned a lot the first year and found ways to make things easier. The second year ran fairly smoothly (ie, less hours for me). If interested, here are links to the last two awards ceremonies. Also, if you have any questions on how it is run, you can click here and see some of the other threads and/or PM/email me. 2008 Whiffies 20
  14. Red was here in Salt Lake last year and my son and I went to the show. Was just him in character with some anecdotes and songs. Still a good time. Earlier in the day he was at one of the local Cal-Ranch stores and I was able to get him to sign a roll of Duct tape for me.
  15. Love the build. The Lightning is one of my favorites and seeing it modernized is just icing on the cake. As for the tail less Boxcar, sounds like the good basis for a cargo helicopter.
  16. I actually finished 6 kits this year (up from just 2 last year). Revell's Easy Snap 1/129ish scale Tie 1X Academy 1/72nd M977 HEMTT Testors 1/160ish PT Boat Hobby Boss 1/700 U-Boat build for the What If Pirate GB, ARRR Reaper 28mm (actually almost 2"tall) Jeeves done as Gearloose Polar Lights 1/24th? The Jetsons Spaceship (or Space Car)
  17. Nice stuff. Really like the Creature dio and the different take on Ballistic Rose.
  18. I have seen it twice. Got free tickets to the sneak peek on the Monday before it was released. 3D version done the way I like, without things purposefully coming at you. Enjoyed the show but not blown away. My oldest had pre-bought tickets to the Friday show before we found out about the sneak peek so went and saw it again on release day, this time in IMAX 3D, big difference in my opinion. Now, if Disney will release this logo on a black t-shirt, I will get one.
  19. I liked the Pod Racer with 8 engines. How about the TARDIS, suitably marked, of course. Cessna 172?
  20. Got my Mitchell yesterday. Thanks again.
  21. 2 1/72 Hasegawa B-25J Mitchell Gun nose BB
  22. We have had a little of the white stuff over the last 2 weeks. First storm: This morning:
