  1. I don't know what "Ctber" Monday is... But I do know that Mike's a good guy, produces great stuff and I got my order in :) George
  2. Thanks Joel - I remember that Chuck had upped the level of thinner he was using, and that it was someone else who mentioned the thin "flash coat" of Mr. LT. Having never really being happy with the gloss coats before - it was really nice to find something that worked so well and easily. These forums are great for so many sharing great tips that we all can use :) George
  3. Jorge - really nicely done. I'm about half way through one of those myself, and I was wondering about the kit decals. Did you have any problems with them - and what did you use for the underlying gloss coat? George
  4. I've always had trouble with getting a nice gloss coat. Reading over on Large Scale Planes - Chuck (a master builder) mentioned his switch to X-22 thinned around 50% with Mr. Color LT. I tried that - (and I live in the humid Southeast) - and still had some undesirable very light "frosting" (not the complete gloss I was hoping for). Someone else had mentioned that after spraying that mixture - to spray a light mist coat of straight Mr. Color LT. It turned out great - I was really happy with the result and will be using it full time .
  5. I'd like some advice on repairing a S-3 Viking (looks to be slightly larger than 1/72 scale) for a co-worker of mine. Looking at the break on the tail, it looks to be some sort of resin / composite that I haven't worked with before. The immediate things for repair that come to mind are either, 5 minute epoxy, Gorilla Super Glue, or something I haven't tried yet - E6000 adhesive. Any other thoughts or opinions of the repair of this. Fortunately, the break is pretty clean - but I don't want the repair to be fragile. Thanks for any advice.
  6. Kursad - You're the first decal maker that I've bought decals from BEFORE the kit because your subject choices then motivate me to look more into the subjects :) Here's one of your Vietnam F-104C's getting close to being finished :) Thank you for what you do for us :) George
  7. If you didn't already know - there's a pretty big visual difference with the (A)T-38B/C with the intakes and exhaust nozzles. When they were flown out at Holloman AFB, they were the AT-38B models with the original intake / exhaust.
  8. I'll take these if you still have them Kursad (I'll send you a PM as well)- Italeri 1/48 H-21 Workhorse / Shawnee: $45 . Includes a free Caracal Models CD48121 H-21 decal sheet (a $14 value) -Valom 1/72 B-45A Tornado: $30 . Includes a free Caracal Models CD72068 B-45 Tornado decal sheet (a $14 value) George Hitchins
  9. "Talon on Target" Done by artisti Matt Wakki. Really nicely done. Flying this jet, dogfightinng, dropping bombs, shooting the mini-gun, was a great way to spend the day :)
  10. Thanks for the advice - I hadn't tried lacquer thinner yet - figured their thinner would be best. But like you said - the older paint may not like it.
  11. I'm working on a large, studio scale (32") Millennium Falcon and have acquired some original Floquil paints that match what was used in the movie. I've also got some Floquil thinner (the old can with the vintage train on the front), and some newer F.T. in the small jars and used that. The paints are all in good condition - no problem with that at all. I'm using an Iwata HP-CS airbrush with a .3 needle I thinned the paint like "normal" - but it was really hard to spray - it would only come out in bursts. I then thinned it a great deal - and it sprayed OK - but not great
  12. The C-5B is an improved version of the C-5A. It incorporated all modifications and improvements made to the C-5A with improved wings, simplified landing gear, upgraded TF-39-GE-1C turbofan engines and updated avionics. 50 of the new variant were delivered to the U.S. Air Force from 1986 to 1989. Following a study showing 80% of the C-5 airframe service life remaining, AMC began an aggressive program to modernize all remaining C-5Bs and C-5Cs and many of the C-5As. The C-5 Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) began in 1998 and includes upgrading avionics to Global Air Traffic Manage
  13. Tamiya Extra Thin has been my "go to" for quite a while. Never any issues with it. Tamiya orange cap glue is a bit thicker if you need something like that.
  14. Red Star Scale Models - good service, no problems :) Red Star
  15. Very nice work Jake :) "Hogs breath is better than no breath"
  16. Is it OK to like both styles? It's easier to store and look for them in the book case with Portrait style, but I do like the layout better with Landscape. And as someone said, easier to keep them open when using them for reference. I guess I'd better hurry up and sell my $10,000 "Modern Hog Guide" book on Amazon before you re-print it... :)
  17. This is obviously a biased response here... My old jet 82-665 was the very last A-10 built. It first flew at England AFB and was the demo jet for awhile. It flew in Desert Storm and later in life at Davis-Monthan and is currently flying at Nellis. The last of its kind, and I've got some decent reference photos of it just a few weeks prior to leaving for Desert Storm. It took me a great deal of effort to get the right markings for the jet way back when I built this - but even after all these years, it's still a pretty iconic look.
  18. Order in - thank you Jake - and "Happy New Year" to you as well :) George
  19. First - I can't prove any of this - but it's true. A while back, I was working with an individual current on the F-22. They had a relative current on the F-35. There was a meeting of the Congressional "Science and Technology Committee" where the F-35 individual was invited to participate. Through them - my co-worker was also invited to address the committee and offer insights about the F-22. The end result wasn't about performance, requirements or needs. It was about how the F-35 could help that individual member in their respective district. The questions posed to my co-worker were lud
  20. Got a box full of beautiful stickers today :) Great job as always Kursad! Thank you for putting out such a quality product! George
  21. I'm sure not all Phantoms are the same - but there are instances where having the formation lights raised slightly from the surface would be appropriate (in my opinion)
  22. I took a road trip up to Freetime with a couple of modelling buddies in October. Absolutely one of the best brick and mortar hobby stores I've ever been to. Huge selection of items. Great staff, and have mail ordered from them as well without any problems. I'll definitely be using them more in the future.
  23. Paul - do you add anything to the Future? I've never been truly happy with my spraying results. Thanks.
