  1. Speaking as a consumer and by no means a marketing expert, but has anyone stopped to think about why the sudden discovery of a Revell F-14B without any advanced notice. I didn't pay attention to the Revell F-15E's pre-release hype, but look what they did for the F-18E prior to it's long awaited release. I think they had everyone pumped-up about it for at least two years before anyone even saw the box art, so now why all the excitement?? I think Revell would have flooded the air with news about a "new" Tomcat especially when they know the number of Tomcat fans willing to sell their kids for a n
  2. Our hangar is based at Meadows Field (KBFL) at the S/E corner of the airport. The hangar and HQ are all on the same property. I agree, the turn out was disappointing. Kern County is a great place to work. We cover, not only all of Kern County (2nd largest county in Calif), but we also assist neighboring counties who don't have air units. I guess you can say we are the only air unit in the southern San Juaquin Valley, south of Fresno and we are always in-demand for someone. We will be getting a Huey II in September to add to the fleet. If you're ever up our way and want shots of thre birds let
  3. Thanks for the pics Dave. My partner and I flew Kern's 497E that day and your shots of her are just a few I've seen on the web so far. I wanted to attach the FLIR (FLIR 2000) and Nightsun, but unless both crewmembers agree it's a No Go. I think he was worried the FLIR 2000 may have looked outdated, which it is, compared to the other departments represented at the show. They still do the job for us! We have brand new FLIR 8500s still in their boxes!! Just waiting for the mechanics to make the necessary mods for the new equipment. Anyway thanks for posting the pics!!!
  4. Don't forget AMT's F-4s. They may not have the detail as Hasegawa and even the good ol' Monogram, but it builds pretty easy and the fit is okay too. You may be able to find one on Ebay pretty cheap.
  5. AWESOME!!!! Your paint and weathering looks great!! Just AWESOME!!!
  6. I use an oven cleaner. It's called Easy-Off here in the states. I remove all the clear plastic from the model then spray the cleaner all over the model. I let it set for about 30 minutes then take a toothbrush and scrub the model in a tub of wrm, soapy water. I'll spray it on a second time if all the paint doesn't come off. I'll repeat the procedure as many times as needed to get all the paint off. Use in a well ventilated area and wear rubber gloves. I've also used lighter fluid used to re-fill Zippo lighters and a toothbrush to get the stubborn paint off. Just make sure you dip the model in
  7. It looks great!!! Nice weathering job!! I think I can hear the fans turning!!!
  8. As the topic title and description says, I'm looking for any detailed shots of the Navy's refueling drogue as it looks when deployed for air to air refueling. I've searched this forum and Google without much luck. Thanks in advance!!
  9. I received a few shots of the bare fuselage prior to the 212 kit being applied as you see in photos at the begining of this post. The bulkhead where the tail attaches has been modified and re-inforced to accept the 212 tail boom assembly: Here's the bird fully assembled at Bell-Areo and leaving for Edwards & Associates to be outfitted with the avionics, instrument panel, hoist, paint, etc...
  10. I have the 1/48 Fujimi F-14 Super Tomcat with the box showing the red & white test bird. One could assume it is the F-14D, but it isn't. I haven't seen a Fujimi box marked "F-14D" in 1/48. If the model you're talking about is the one I have, spend the $50 on a Hasegawa F-14D. The Fujimi has the GE nozzles, but still has the older style gun vents and a sparse cockpit too. I have to go dig it out and check if it has the vertical stab stiffner plates, but I remember it is their "A" model with a few pieces to make it look almost like a B or D.
  11. Here's a link to Raytheon's web site which has some pretty good photos of the ATFLIR. http://www.raytheon.com/newsroom/technolog...lery/index.html
  12. If you hadn't have told me it was 1/144 I'd say it was 1/72 or 1/48. Great job!!! I gotta get me one or two of those!!
  13. Great looking build with a beautiful finish....I'm jealous
  14. Something that works better than WD-40 to prevent rust is BreakFree brand lubricant. It contains teflon and just a drop goes along way. I use it on my tools, airbrushes and firearms including my duty weapons which are exposed to every condition you can imagine. Put a drop of it on your index finger and using that one drop, spread it over your tools. You'll see one drop goes a long way and all you need is a very, very thin film on the surface of each tool. The film does not need to look 'wet'. It's sold in either a spray can or squeeze bottle. I prefer the squeeze bottle because it easier to co
  15. I believe it was close to a 3:1 ratio (water/glue). I eyeballed the measurements and mixed the two until it was a bit thicker than whole milk. After the paper soaked, I held each circle with tweezers until they stopped dripping. I placed them on a paper towel to draw the excess fluid from them befor apllying them to the exhausts.
  16. I have no idea what the nose art is and I doubt if the mechanics on the floor know much about it. I've tried to magnify my screen to get a better look, but I lose resolution.
  17. We're all pretty excited. We fly OH-58A+ and MD 500E. The blades on the Huey are huge compared to what we're use to flying and yes....it will make some noise!!
  18. You are correct John. The Huey II is a rebuilt H with a 212 tail boom, tail rotor, main rotor system, trans and nose. I believe the fuselage was built in the early 70s, I recall 1972 or 73. There are several Hueys being used that are remanufactured by other companies other than Bell-Aero. They are identical to the Huey II, only they can't be called Huey II because they were not remanufactured by Bell or it's subsidiary, Bell-Aero. They Huey II is not a certificated aircraft either
  19. Here's a few photos of my units Huey II under construction at Bell-Aero in Texas. When it's finished it will be taken to Edwards & Associates, I believe in Nashville, Tennessee, to be outfitted and painted. These shots were taken about two months ago. The ship should be ready for delivery this August...I hope. I'll post more photos as they come in if anyone is interested?
  20. Please see above Huey II post.]
  21. I thought this thread was dead and so I deleted the helmet pics. I had no idea the F-18 was posted. I apologize. As far as the visor guard, I'm in the same boat. I was tasked to paint a SPH-4 for our sheriff. I think I'll try a little bit of gold leaf this time around. How about painting your visor a full-blown tiger scheme to match the pattern exposed under the rips on the helmet? It will look like the visor has had it's outter skin torn completely off and the helmet shell is next.
