  1. A couple of 1/48 builds I recently finished: Monogram P-61B and Z-M F-4G. I put a lot of aftermarket for my usual build into the P-61B. Vector engines and nacelles, Eduard photo etch and wheels, Aeromastere decal. The clear parts really turned out to be pain. I made a mess of gluing them together. I tried polishing and dipping in future. The end result is they are shiny but imperfect. This one was much easier to build. OOB for the most part. I used Afterburner Decals for 3TFW F-4Es and Gs. I did use Babibi 3D decals for the cockpit. These were des
  2. A simple bing search came up with a few. Here is one CLICK HERE. HTH
  3. There is no question that the A-6, S-3, A-10 have/had usefulness left in them. The issue is more of a spreading around of finite amount of resources and money. Aging aircraft require more maintenance and maintenance is expensive and requires more resources (manpower). The services would rather spend that money on newer more capable aircraft. Congress is more concerned with keeping bases fully staffed and running in the home district than keeping the services up to date.
  4. Not so much a favorite kit but favorite subjects. Mustangs and Phantoms. I have them from all the different companies. I like building them and comparing how they go together. At least 10 mustangs and similar number of Phantoms, all 1/48.
  5. Interesting article about the A-10 in the Wall Street Journal. It reminded me of a discussion I had with my dad many years ago. He was a turret gunner in TBMs during WW2. He didn't see why we needed to spend money on new planes when the old ones still worked. I hesitated to remind him what happened to all those brave young men in the TBDs that he didn't have to go to war in. Geoff M
  6. Masterful job getting those parts in the fuselage. Looks like they were made that way.
  7. I have been using this software for years. Suisoft Limited - KitBase for Scale Modellers
  8. Sounds like a case of visual resolution. Get an OptiVisor or vision aid if you don't have one yet. It really helps with seeing small details
  9. Your paint job is perfect. Looking forward to more updates.
  10. I feel your pain. On many phantom kits that area can be a problem. I use Dymo tape as a guide for rescribing and large sewing needle chucked in a pin vise for restoring lost panel lines. I use the same pin vise for restoring the rivet detail. I also learn from the experience and next time I add a spacer to make the two parts match better.

    Wash

You should be safe as long as you don't apply it heavily and your enamel is fully cured.
  12. Looks fast just sitting there. Great job!

A gloss coat will help the panel line accent to flow into the panel lines and later when it is dry it will wipe off relatively easy. If you apply it to a flat finish it will soak into the flat finish and won't wipe off easily if at all. Tamiya panel accents will reactivate enamel paints (even gloss paints) and cause a mess. My way of using it is rather tedious. I use a Touch n Flow applicator (like a pipette) and fill it with some panel line accent. Then I can touch it to the panel lines and it will flow into them. Of course you have to hit every panel line but it saves a lot of clean up
  14. Latest completion. It is a great time to be a F-4 fan with all the love being given lately. Here is my effort at an ADC finished F-4C. The kit was built OOB with the Speed Hunter Graphics decals for Mig Killers. This plane has a kill star on the port air conditioning scoop. Thanks for checking it out.
  15. Sorry I got that confused with Alclad Gloss. 😮
  16. I don't know what your end result was but the rule in paints and clear coats is "no lacquer based over acrylic based".
  17. Be Careful with those! They might blow up. They look real.
  18. it's just the Mustang Gt 350
  19. I have tried masking the canopy and leaving the area to be painted the seal color unmasked. Painted the canopy black, let it dry and paint the appropriate seal color, then mask the seal outline. Paint the rest of the kit. It is a lot of masking and hoping when you remove the mask you don't pull off the painted seal. At the width of these seals it is tough to get them not to look ragged too. You also have to make sure and keep the width consistent. If you are careful it can work. Most of the time I don't bother.
