  1. Thanks, that'd be great! Can you explain what the Dreadnought version is? Kev
  2. Thanks fellas. I feel a bit silly talking about accuracy regarding sci-fi kits, but I take it the resin saucer doesn't represent the same thing that the original kit parts do? (I know absolutely nothing about the fictitious development of the Starship Enterprise.) I may just try to make the resin part work, and fudge the details, just for a fun (!) build. Kev
  3. Well, shows how much I know - I thought that was the top! Anyway, here's the other side: Any clues? The concern I have with the weight of the resin piece (if it is indeed resin) is not with how it will affect the weight of the overall model, but that the join between the saucer and the main hull won't take the strain (even if I pin it with brass rods). Besides, the parts are different, and I'm not sure they'll even fit each other. I've already paid for the kit though, and no kit goes to waste in my workshop, so I'd like to do something with it. Kev
  4. Hi guys, I bought the kit depicted in the photo below off eBay last year: The seller described it as a 'parts kit', though in the photos it looked like everything was actually, and being cheap, I snapped it up. However, upon inspecting the contents upon arrival, I discovered that the parts for the saucer section were missing, and had been replaced by a solid (and heavy!) piece of what looks like cast resin: So, the seller was right! (And I have no issue with that.) I have no idea where the solid saucer piece has come from, and I don't think it's merely a cast copy of the assembled kit p
  5. Thanks Nathan. They don't seem to have paints (or any consumables) in their online catalogue, so perhaps I'll give them a call when I get a chance. Kev
  6. Ah, excellent news Nathan. Showcase Models? Never heard of 'em! Can you tell me where they are? Not sure about the Hannants thing though, as I'm pretty sure they had to change their rules on paint a little while back, as the laws had changed in the UK. Their current info about posting enamel paints is that it has to be done via surface mail (except aerosols, which can't be posted at all). Apparently they can still sent acrylic paints via air mail however. I'd love to be wrong about that, but to be honest, there's no way I'm ordering a kit from Hannants just to get a pot of paint! Kev
  7. That's a beauty Jennings. But is it available anywhere as a decal sheet? I know Hawkeye has some suitable sheets, but I'm not keen on their ordering process. I would like, over time, to work towards a representative collection of Qantas aircraft and liveries. Kev
  8. Thanks for the suggestions fellas. I'm not looking to purchase any additional/replacement decals at this stage - that's what the Flightpath decals were for! And hence my frustration over the situation. I'm open to suggestions regarding suitable Aussie decals for my Airfix 737-200 kit though! Kev
  9. Thanks Ray, that's about what I thought too. If Ben can get some window decals to me, I'll go with the Ansett one from Flightpath. Otherwise I'll bide my time until something else comes along. I got into airliner modelling as an occasional escape from the AMS involved in 1/32 aircraft, but now I have an A321 I can't find paint for, and a 737 I can't find decals for! (Actually, that goes for my Airfix 737, 727 and Trident kits too.) Kev
  10. Thanks Ray. Me neither. I'll give them a few days to answer, but I already know what's going to happen. I confirmed via the Hannants website that they can only send Xtracolour by surface mail (which would probably still be quicker than Sandle, ironically), and they don't do those colours in their Xtracrylix range (which they can send by air). I can order the Model Master Voodoo Gray colour through Frontline Hobbies, so I may just go that route (though it becomes an $11 bottle of paint!). What a fuss over a jar of paint! Kev
  11. Ray, I've taken the punt and attempted to order the paint from Sandle Hobbies, but have ended up having the same bad experience as last time. The process bails as soon as I try to submit the payment via their payment gateway, and then unceremoniously dumps me back to their site, but no longer logged in. My account tells me I have no current orders, but I still receive the order confirmation email from them! Also, their process never attempted to charge me for postage, so I'm not sure how that's supposed to work. If it's at all like last time, it won't, as nothing ever happened, and my email en
  12. So I've heard, plus it appears to neatly solve my decal issue by providing only window and stencil decals (leaving you to come up with your own solution for the livery). However, I'm only an occasional (and broke!) airliner modeller, so the Minicraft one is fine for now. Kev
  13. Thanks Ben! PM on its way... Kev
  14. Well, kinda. The Flightpath decals I mentioned earlier are intended for the Welsh kit, and don't have any window decals. This kit has no windows, so needs window decals! So the Flightpath set isn't really going to work with this kit. I'd prefer to build an Aussie subject, but will settle for the nice Cartograf Delta ones if necessary. My airliner stash is full of mismatched kits, paints and decals! Kev
  15. Thanks chaps. A -300 it is. I've just been through my decal stash, and the only thing I have for an Aussie 737-300 is a set of Flightpath decals for Ansett Airlines, but they don't include any windscreen or window decals! I'm just looking for a (relatively) quick and easy build of an Aussie airliner, and I keep running into brick walls. Perhaps I should just build it with the kit decals and be done with it (I try mostly to build Aussie liveries where possible). Thanks again you guys for clarifying the situation for me. Kev
  16. I tend to agree, and I think this is a case of there being tension between perception and reality. The reality is that you shouldn't be able to see panel lines on model airliners if done to scale. The perception is that they can look toy-like and, ironically, a little 'unreal' if there are none. It's what the mind wants to see versus what really should be there. In the end, what the mind wants to see (perception) wins. I think it's perfectly fine to add a little dynamism and life to a model, even if it breaks the letter of the scale law. Kev
  17. Cool, thanks for the info! I vaguely remember all the customer code guff when I built the 707, so I figured the 737 should be similar that way. So, in the end, it appears to be a simple (and stupid!) error on the box. I'm hoping to build it in Qantas (or some other Aussie airline) livery anyway, though the kit decals are printed by Cartograf, and appear quite good. Kev
  18. Hi mate, Thanks for that input. I was hoping someone here would be familiar with this particular kit, and know what it was meant to be. I see from the Internet Modeler review you link to that one of the flaws in the Minicraft -400 kit is the lack of a tail bumper! The closest I can get to a real world fuselage length translation (including the tail) is 108 feet. So, it's gotta be a -300, right? The Internet tells me that the machine depicted by the kit, N224DA, belongs to a 737-35B - is that also indicative of a -300? I'm assuming at this stage that Minicraft simply mislabelled the box cover
  19. That is stupendous and gorgeous all at the same time. Where the heck are you going to display/store it? Kev
  20. Hi folks, I'm back with another question. I bought the kit shown in the photos below for cheap off an acquaintance at a swap meet last year, but it wasn't until I got it home that I noticed the conflicting information about the aircraft version. Now, I know virtually nothing about 737s, so I can't tell from looking. Can any of you guys clarify this for me? Firstly, the kit: Notice it's labelled as a -400. Now, the instructions: Ha ha! Now it's a -300! The decals reckon so too: The kit is labelled #14506, just like the decals. Here's a shot of the box contents, in case that helps:
  21. Thanks Ray. Hmmm, my only attempt at ordering anything through Sandle Hobbies before was a disaster (though I didn't lose any money thankfully), so I'm not keen to go that route. I might be tempted if they have it in stock, but otherwise it's too risky (I couldn't hack the wait, let alone anything else). I'd order directly from Hannants, but it's my understanding that they no longer ship these paints overseas via any domestic freight channels. I'd love to hear that I'm wrong! I did find a bottle of Model Master Canadian Voodoo Gray at the Frontline Hobbies site, so perhaps that might have to
  22. Thanks fellas. I'll see what I can find. I don't recall seeing Model Master enamels about these parts of late, but then I mainly use acrylics, so probably wouldn't notice anyway. Time to take a look! Kev
  23. Hi folks, I've got the Swissair boxing of Revell's 1/144 A321 that I'd like to build OOB. The instructions call for 'Airbus Grey' for the undersides. I think Xtracolour has (or had) something like this in their range, but those paints are largely unobtainable now in Australia. Can anybody suggest a reasonable alternative that I could find locally to me? Thanks in advance! Kev
  24. Any more work done on this one? Kev
  25. Just found this again via Google, and wondering whatever happened to this build. Kev
