  1. I like the urban resistors. I'd probably be able to use alot more of them than the Vietcong guys.

DML's Delta's also look like the way to go. There were more than 4 on each black hawk weren't there? Seems like there were in the movie anyway.

I already have Hasegawa's uh-60a for the 1/72 that I'm considering for the downed bird. I was thinking of trying to do some basic modifications to bring it to a mh-60l. These things get completely tore up when you slam them into the ground anyway. Would this be a completely terrible idea (I'm not that familiar with helicopters, sorry)?

The dio idea looks great arkhunter. Mine is going to need a few structure fronts to define the borders and alleys.

  2. Gonna pick up the Academy "ah-60l" and would like to build Durant's bird.

My question relates to the complement of crewmembers and Delta operators onboard that morning. Anyone have out a set of Delta guys that would be fairly close to the guys in Somalia?

Also, anyone have some pretty good pics of Super 61 after the crash? I'm also toying with building a diorama of the crash with the Little Bird coming in to check for survivors. I'm thinking of using some 1/72 Vietcong for the Somalis moving in unless there is something better.

    Thanks,

    John

  3. Doubt it, but anyone willing to part with their figures from the visible b-17 kit? They included five with the kit and I'd like to have a full crew.

If not, I suppose I'd be "forced" to buy another kit.

  4. I agree that Forrest was a genius on the tactical front, heck, the guy was a really good businessman (owned several plantations as well as owning a slave market in Memphis). He was also one of the wealthiest people in the southern states, so probably did outfit his unit.

The thing about his grandson joining the Nazi party was a joke. I'm sure that Forrest III was loyal to the US, it was a joke about Klan and Nazi racial ideologies.

In class I don't really go after the legality of secession. The way that I figure it, the South would have left the Union whether they thought it illegal or not. So, to me anyway, legality of the issue is a moot point.

I think Dr. Tran really captured the original Forrest in his statement that Forrest was the best and worst of America.

  5. I'm getting ready for my lectures on the Civil War and ran across a weird reference to Forrest's great grandson (Forrest was one of the main founding fathers of the KKK in case ya' didn't know). Evidently Forrest III's plane went down on June 13, 1943 on a run on the sub yards at Kiel.

His body was recovered, which ruined my theory that he ran off and joined the Nazi party.

Anyway, if anyone has any more info give me a yell.

  6. Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the interior of the ball turret and the tail gear mechanism? Especially on the ball, it's kinda hard to get a good idea of the interior from photos taken in such a small space.

    Thanks,

    John

  7. Anyone know of a passable set of crew that could be used for the interior? I know there have been some requests at Meteor for such a set, but I really don't think that I'll be able to wait very long before digging into this kit.

Also, I'm looking for a copy of the B-17g Erection and Maintenance manuals. I've found a few for $20 or so. But these things have to be public domain by now. Any online pdf's or anything? I'm really wanting to get carried away one this one and thinking it would be a great project to practice some scratch building.

Just throwing this out there, but anyone up for a very slow paced group build or just posting some unique or interesting ideas for inclusion into the interior in a thread?

I'm definately considering a chem toilet (if they existed at the time) and possibly trying to build up a full ball turret. My skills are probably not up to some of this, so I guess I'll have to buy two, hehe.

  8. Just heard that the visible B-17 is going to be reissued sometime in 2008. I"M SUPER GIDDY!!! However, several online shops already have it listed (says "out of stock though"). Anyone know when this is actually getting to market?

Also, anyone know exactly what comes with the Verlindin B-17 update? I've seen the ad pics, but would like to see a review or something.

  9. I'm going to try this on a Tie Interceptor windscreen that has some bleed through paint. How long are you leaving the Easy Off on the parts before rinsing them??

I tried something similar a while back with "Purple Power," a degreaser from Autozone. Worked great on removing paint, but the clear parts all fogged up.

  10. Greetings all,

Is the bottom forward section of the fuselage of the rf-8 squared off to house to camera equipment or am I just seeing things? I'm thinking about trying to duplicate the conversions for the kit without a resin set, so trying to get an idea of this is at all reasonable.

Or better yet, any news of anyone releasing an rf-8 in 1/72 or 1/48 anytime soon?
