Christian, the problem there is that most model paint manufactured is not a true black but a mix of dark color's that will pass the naked eye as black, but, when white is added the true color/colors show up. As far as I know the only real Clean Black was Floquil's black. I dont know if it still is after Testors bought out Floquil and they may have changed it.

I have the Airfix 1/72 Curtiss 81-A-2 kit infront of me, I intend on building it as an earlier model one of the 100 delivered P-40cu with one mg in the wing. My question is which of the mg on the 81-A-2 wings should be removed the inner or outer? It seems even with the books I have about this Curtiss aircraft none show a wing plan of the model I wish to build. Thanks....fly P

A photo in the book 'The Curtiss Hawks' by Shamburger and Christy shows an in flight photo (USAF photo page 56)of the 17th from above, the lead flight of 3 aircraft has whats looks to be (under a magnifying loop) #40 with the 3 red Command stripes on its top wing. I would normally scan such a photo but in this case the spine of the book is my concern. Flypaper Just took a look in Archers book Vol I and another pic of the 17th in flight different angle but #40 is in line with other a/c and the command stripes are clearly visible.

I'm not going to bet my house on this but, If I remember correctly Classic Airframes needed some help and Hannants forwarded them some money. For that help Classic Airframes started that series of UK aircraft that (don't throw stones at me) started the death spiral of CA. Hannants probably has control of some or all of the CA molds and are testing the waters with some reissues.

The 0/400 was built in the US by the Standard aircraft manufacturing company and was known as the 'Langley'.

In my hunt through some little seen photos I've put together a smallish collection of WWI armor both Allied and German I think they might be of interest, but, I'm not sure which is the correct thread to place them so a little help would be welcome. FP

Wondering about the markings of the first illustration (Army 14) and its markings. The a/c looks as if it has a set of US civilian registration numbers painted on the rear fuselage N1714M? Was this scheme copied from a restored a/c? -

What happened to the Curtiss P-6E? -
Thank you! It seems that the US Military has continued the traditions started by there Grandfathers in WWII and Fathers in Vietnam. I'm sure more than a few were not officially recognized, but thats what makes them an interesting thing to collect. FP

As a Vietnam era Marine, I decided to do a little something to focus on the US Military who serve in Iraq and the Afghan. As a collector and vet I managed to put together a youtube video of the patches worn by these men and women worn over the past 10 years. Thanks Flypaper

Difference between BF2C-1 & Hawk III for 1/32" conversion
flypaper2222 replied to RHanes's topic in Classic Aviation Forum
From the 'Curtiss Fighter Aircraft' book.....older wooden framed wing structure....3 bladed propeller.....improved cowling (18 inches deep)....short stack exhaust....no tail hook....WrightSR 1820-53 Cyclone supercharged...360 degree swiveling tail wheel. BUT....and there is always a but. There were at least 9 differnt variations of the III sold all around the world so there may be some detail differences between one and another all according to which III you opt for.
