  3. Thanks for the info, guys. I really prefer low vis markings and I'll take a look at the Phoenix sheet. It's too bad Sprue Brothers never upscaled their VFA-11/VFA-32 sheet, as those are excellent markings.
  4. I'm beginning to plan my next project, which will be a 1/32 Trumpeter F/A-18F and I'd love to do a low vis scheme from VFA-32. Does anyone do aftermarket decals for the squadron? If not, are there any low-vis markings for other squadrons? Also, I've been out of the modeling scene for a while so if there are any pitfalls to this kit or needed aftermarket items, any advice would be welcome.
  5. I posted this in the parts trading section but thought this post might reach more people who might actually have what I need. I'm planning on building a C-5M and need the CF6-80C2 engines. I read that the Revell 747-400 comes with these and even if they're not 100% correct, they'll be a good starting point. So, if anyone has a spare set, or an assembled set from a trashed kit, I'd be interested. A cheap kit would do, as well. Just send me a PM and we can work something out. I did find that BraZ makes them in resin but they're pretty expensive for four, and since I need to build new pylons, t
  6. I'm planning a build of a C-5M and need a set of GE CF6-80C2 engines. The Revell 1/144 747-400 comes with these and I'm hoping someone has a set from a trashed kit they can spare. An assembled set would be fine. It was also brought to my attention that the AniGrand C-5 kit comes with a set of engines to make the C-5M. If anyone happens to have this kit and didn't use them, I'd be happy to work out a deal for them. If you have a set or even a cheap kit, shoot me a PM or email (Hornethappy@gmail.com) and we can work out a trade or purchase.

  12. Something else to consider would be a 25-30 gallon upright compressor from Sears or Home Depot. They are a bit noisy while they fill but you could do that while the kids are awake. Once filled, you'd have plenty of air for a nights modeling (you can switch it off so it doesn't automatically fill). The upside to those are you'd be able to use it for lots of other things. I see the 26 gallon Craftsman compressor on sale for around $275 quite often and it usually comes with an air ratchet and impact wrench.
  13. I used to use one of these: filter I used to have a 60 gallon upright compressor in my garage and ran a line to the house to use for modeling. I had a water trap at the compressor, then used this filter on the connection in the house. I never had problems with oil or water using toilet paper as a filter. I also used a dedicated hose for painting models, just to be sure there were no contaminates in the line. If you're in a humid area, you might need to change the TP more often, but it's pretty cheap. The price is high for a new filter but a used one can probably be found on ebay or similar s
  14. I lowered the prices a bit. Feel free to make a reasonable offer if you think the prices are too high. Mike
  15. I apologize for not getting back to you. I thought I'd receive an email if there were any replies. Anyway, The prices I was given to ship to Canada were outrageous ($57) so I limited the sale to the US.
  16. I would assume that the covers would be off during launch, as the HUD would be needed if the launch was aborted and they made an emergency landing. Those covers in the on orbit pic you posted look like cloth or plastic to my eye. The second set looks like a hard cover. I'm sure there are plenty of photos out there of them, though.
  17. Shave your cat. It's the only way to be sure that won't happen again. Seriously though, you're off to a good start. That kit is a lot of fun to build and I look forward to more updates.
  18. I stopped using Tenax7 several years ago when I couldn't find it in stock anywhere and gave Ambroid ProWeld a try. I noticed absolutely no difference in the two and you get more for the same price. It's very easy to find, as well. I also use Testors liquid cement for certain things, as it evaporates slower. I can brush it on and it gives me a bit of time to assemble things like two halves of landing gear, etc. I would like to try the Weld-on. Hopefully I can find some locally.
  19. I use three 1 ounce paint jars to clean my brushes (old Testors paint jars). They are labeled 1, 2 and 3. The first gets most of the paint out, then the second and third are used until the brush is clean. When the first jar gets dirty, I pour that into an old 1 gallon metal thinner can and refill the jar. Then I switch the lids, so the cleanest one is always #3. The thinner lasts a long time that way and I only need to clean the jars three or four times a year. I don't brush paint very much, so your mileage may vary. I use lacquer thinner and a gallon is cheap enough that I don't mind throw
  20. Speedbird2, If I read your posts correctly, your problem is broken struts which should be easy to replace. If you have not found a replacement set of supports, I'd suggest making replacements from pieces of sprue. You should be able to find pieces of the appropriate diameter on the kit sprue, but you can raid other kits if you've thrown them out. With CA or a good liquid cement, I can't imagine that they wouldn't be strong enough to hold the orbiter. Also, you might consider posting in the Tools & Tips section. You're likely to get a few more ideas there.
