Although this is very early in the story but already there are some aftermarkets which can be used for the AMMO MiG-17 kit. The Master pitots and guns spring to mind in the first place. They have been around for years, and you can say they are not for this particular kit. No they are not, they are for the MiG-17’s! They are a true scale copy of the original parts on the 17’s, so if the kit part is wrong in size or design it is because the kit designer did something wrong. Hey Guys! The Cockpit it s now ready, here some pictures :) I used decals and 3D switched from ANYZ and the panel is a 3D decal of Quinta. -

An Addendum: There is a Quinta Studios 3D decal set for the cockpit. $35 on eBay. Purchased straight away for "personal modeling needs". There is no Mrs, so I have no misses. -

The only authentic color for the F-15 metallic blue is Xtracolor X159, very old school... After a drying time of one week, I start painting the details. A mix of ANYZ models and Quinta 3D decals push the side wall on a higher level. -
The MiG-17 is a funny subject. For most it is a transitional aircraft, the older bro of MiG-15 and something before the legendary MiG-21 came along. So as such very little attention has been payed to it, simple, kit manufacturers don’t expect anything from it. AMMO was brave to venture into this. But for example the boss of Edu was asked thousands of times by Czech modellers why there is no MiG-17 by this company. Simple answer he does not like it, feels it is important aircraft . . . But it seems apart from some Chinese makers all the rest refused to do any kits of it. And hope no one will c

Hi all, Is Aires falling behind the new 3D printing technology? Why do you think Aires is not using the 3D printed interior in combination with resin? I believe Aires photo-etched parts pale in comparison to Quinta-Studio 3D interiors. What are your thoughts? j

I used the Red Fox/ZM set on the ZM and the quinta on the Meng F-4G. Would have been happier with quinta for both. To me the Red Fox ones can just pop off their paper backing and fly away, you have to really be on the look out and do it all in one sitting just in case one tiny piece flys off and you dont notice so you have a chance to find it! Quinta also started to do some more sidewall stuff (not just the circuit breakers) on the Meng set.

Hey Tom, I looked back at the post where i thought there was a discussion about using the Meng F-4G cockpit sett on a ZM F-4G, however, what was stated was that they adapted the ZM Quinta set to the Meng F-4G, which I think had to be incorrect, since there is no ZM Quinta set...yet. However, you can see what was written here, on page 1 of the thread, a post by BillS, a bit below the middle of the page. Curt

Curt, No worries! I've had my share of finding hard to get kits and parts, so no dibs necessary, but you are very kind. Could you point me towards the discussion of adapting the Quinta Meng set to the ZM kit? Thanks, Tom

Tom: Now I feel really bad. I could use the extra Quinta sets for the Meng F-4G one my ZM F-4G, as others have said there was very little that would not work. Would you be interested in the ZM set when I get it? I"ll be happy to send it to you, since you rightly had first dibs on it! Curt

Good to know. I had just been assuming that Quinta would do a cockpit specifically for the ZM F-4G, but I guess they've had long enough to produce it, and so I'll just get over it. I found a ZM cockpit for their F-4G a few minutes ago at Sprue Brothers, but it appears that it was the last one in stock. My apologies to uncarina, but I just bought it. I do happen to have a few extra Quinta cockpit sets for the Meng kit, though, and if uncarina would be interested in one of those, feel free to PM me about it.

I have the ZM kit but haven’t had any luck finding the ZM 3-D cockpit set. Would the Quinta set designed for the Meng kit fit instead? Thanks, Tom

I recently picked up the 1/48 GWH F-1C MSIP II kit and want to build it as the Grim Reapers bird with the special markings on the recent Two Bobs sheet. From what I can tell I need to upgrade the cockpit to the PAD or PASS configuration. I see only two options for the BAM models, and Quinta Studios. I'm thinking that maybe the best option is to get both. Also, the wheels need to be upgraded, the new versions. It appears that again BAM models or phase Hangar have them, which is the best? Any other things I should "upgrade"? I don't care much about t

This looks like a great set for the kit. The kit cockpit is just a rehash of the original tooling. I actually used the Quinta F-16A set for old Kinetic kit in my build. It fit with just a small amount of trimming on the outside edges of the tub. However, the kit IP coaming is slightly out of proportion to the real thing (unchanged from the original tooling). This set appears to have fixed that issue, much like the Hypersonic F-16A replacement IP and coaming. -
Sorry to hear your painting trouble, I used Gunze acrylic color without mixing with an other factory's paint, I alreadys mess up my painting scene but the acrylic paint can be wash with household alcohol. did you use acrylic paint or? The quinta pit comes alone, it's a good set for this model.

Sorry to hear about your painting experience, but I can relate. Is your 'other kit' another Academy A-10C? Sounds like the upgrades you have are the same as mine. Besides the Quinta cockpit, I've got the Phase Hangar intake/exhaust, seat, and wheels. You did a great job with all the work you showed us, and I hope you have better luck with paint this time, and would really appreciate seeing your plane when it's all done!

Unfortunately this kit went to the shelf of doom from the paint booth. I did a whole lot of mottling and pre/post shading with a mix of Gunze and Tamiya paints. Then gloss coated with Tamiya gloss and it somehow ate through a lot of the top coats leaving some hideous heavily “preshaded” abomination. I don’t have it in me to strip and start over right now. I have started my other kit with the works. New intakes, exhaust, wheels, Quinta pit, etc.

I am curious, also. I'd love to see any further in progress photos, or completed ones, if it's gotten that far. I'm working on mine, but just bits and pieces so far. I'm waiting on my Quinta cockpit.

ResKit produce 3D decals under the Kelik brand that are every bit as detailed as the Quinta sets produced in Russia. Their delivery, direct from Ukraine, is reliable and cost-effective.

I am excited as today my Quinta F-4G set for the Meng kit arrives in the ol' mail. I acquired the ZM 3d decals and will combine them with some other quinta leftovers for seat stuff and will build both the Meng and ZM side by side here soon. Should be two fun builds.
