Last year at a model competition I bought an old (very old) Tamiya Lancaster Bomber kit (1975), with the hope of building it into a diorama. I've been searching for years for a person who would have some sort of computer kit that would initiate the engine sequence in a realistic way. Anyway this year I found a source that supplies the computer and other hardware, I just had to source a soundtrack + extras to make it look cool. So what started out as a simple build has turned into a monster task, which I'm happy to say I'm still just on top of. The build is still in progress, but the progress has been positive thus far. Anyway here's some pics of the build to date. Currently the wings are in the paintshop. Enjoy the pics and vids. Lancaster Bomber Diorama Project - Part 1 Lancaster Bomber Diorama Project - Part 4
I remember reading sometime back in 2001 or 2002 an article in SAMI by Randy Lutz in which he details his build of a 1/48 Lancaster (Piccadilly Princess). I haven't seen the article since then, but I'm now starting a 1/48 Lancaster and would love to have that article to reference. Unfortunately SAMI doesn't have any back issues earlier than 2015. Does anyone have a copy lying around?
This is a build for a friend, which was started at the end of October. The Crown Lancaster is a very old kit, the Minicraft Dak a bit more modern. I've built both of these kits before and the different ages of the kits show in the quality of the design, mouldings and fit. This is the Lancaster kit unboxed and partly cut from the sprues to check on sizes for another part of the project. Here's the previous Lancaster build, an accessory on an N scale model railroad. The kits has its shape flaws, and particularly over long landing gear, but still builds into a nice representation of a Lanc.
A good friend of mine has discovered that her father and uncle both crewed the 'Ton Up' Lancaster 'Uncle Joe'. I'd really like to make her a model of this aircraft but I'm having trouble sourcing the decals. I believe they were made by Tally Ho! under the reference number 72 042. Anyone out there have a set or know where I could get them?
