  1. Was another window cut out for the AC-47's third gun when the Spooky switched from the SUU-11 to the MXU-470/A gun system or did they continue to mount the third minigun out of the cargo door?
  2. Dear all, together with my Slick Huey build, I'm working on a Dust Off / MedEvac Huey. It will be a UH-1H with markings of the 237th MD, "Curious Yellow". As there are almost no pictures of MedEvac Hueys available I would like to ask what equipment was carried in addition to the rescue hoist and stretchers? Any information would be highly appreciated! Many thanks in advance and best regards Sven
  3. Dear all. my current project is to build a UH-1D from the 187th AHC, Blackhawks, Tay Ninh 1967. PrintScale offers a fine decal sheet but the overall painting instructions are insufficient. I already carried out quite a lot of research but would like to ask if someone else could contribute to this topic. Here’s what I could find out / assume so far: - Main rotor blades: A short clip on Youtube suggests that one upper blade was painted white while the other was painted OD. The clip shows helicopter of the Crusaders but I assume that this
  4. I am about to start on something I have wanted to do for a long time; a large scale (1/32) UH-34D conversion. The finished product will be a USMC UH-34D from Vietnam which is currently at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA; YN-19. This helicopter has very long and storied history, which can be found here: https://www.freedomsflyingmemorial.org/AircraftHistory.htm I will be starting with the Fly Models Westland Wessex HC.2 kit, which is of a later British version with turbine engines. The kit is interesting that it is a true multi-media affai
  5. This is my second Mig19/J6. Its from Plastyk. There's a reason why its under USD 10. Cheap and rather nasty. Requires much more filling and sanding as compared to my earlier Smer J6. Still, I'm rather satisfied with the outcome. Overall shade was Mr Hobby MC 218 Aluminium. I used a 4B pencil for that different tone of silver. Works better after putting on a matt finish, o find. Markings were from leftover Smer J6 decals. The Plastyk ones looked a tad thick and "sticker-esque" (see last photo).

  7. Hello Gents, I am not sure if this topic should go into the jet modelling section or ship builders corner. I finished my 1/72 Fujimi A-7A in VA-147 markings during their initial SEA combat cruise 67/68. Next up will be a A-6A in VA-165 colors for the same cruise. My intention is to build a small dio showing the Corsair taxiing out with the A-6 being manned up. I have a deck section from Just Plain Stuff and want to create this section of the Ranger. Does anybondy know the dimensions of the white Landing Zone boundary markings? Not just the longitudinal white stripes but also the late
  8. Dear all, actually I'm building a RA-5C Vigilante. My project will resemble a RVAH-11 aircraft, Vietnam War, between October 1971 and June 1972. When the RA-5C entered service it was equipped with an head up display called Projected Display Indicator (PDI). During her career this PDI has been removed by AFC 233. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find out in which time frame these removal has been carried out. Pictures I found were not conclusive. Maybe some has more detailed information and might share them.
  9. Dear all, I‘m about to complete my Trumpeters 1/72 Vigilante. It will represent an RVAH-11 bird during their 1972 cruise with Constellation. I checked a my references (Ginter, Warpaint, Aerofax, Osprey) as well as a lot pictures I found in the internet. But for me it appears that the available stencils are either incomplete or incorrect. I’m aware about the fact that some stencils might have been omitted during a planes service live. Does someone has further information about stencils carried by Vigilantes? I’m also unsure abou
  10. Dear all, An old project ressurected and I would like to ask if you could help me with some research. I need to know the name of the Backseater of an Vietnam era Phantom: The particular aircraft was a F-4E Phantom II, 66-0371, tailcode was JJ. It served in Korat with the 388th TFW, 34th TFS from May 1969 to Feb. 1972. In May 1970 the aircraft was named Arizona Chicken with the appropriate artwork on the intake. The crew names were painted on the canopy rails. The pilot's name was Maj. Roger Long. I already contacted the USAF museum and
  11. Dear all, I always wanted to build a Vietnam ear RC-135M So it is no surprise that I have the AMT RC-135 kit in my stash. Unfortunately the Vietnam specific “M” version has some fairings at the rear sides. After a lot of time I found some on Shapeways and ordered them. In my eyes thze shape matches the picture available and the fit is probably much better than some of the kit parts. Here you can find two picture of a test fit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w2luxs7s477jmh3/IMG_0610_s.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/nkavvo821ejuial/IMG_0612_s.jpg?dl=0
  12. Hi all, In a fit of madness I decided to build four 1/48 Phantoms at the same time. Here's the first: Hasegawa's 1/48 F-4E from a 2001 boxing in the kit decals. Paint is Mr Color and applied freehand. The seats and pylons are True Details resin. The engine exhausts are from an Academy F-4. A full description is written up here: https://jonbryon.com/hasegawa-1-48-mcdonnell-douglas-f-4e-phantom-ii/ Comments welcome and thanks for looking. Jon
  13. Dear all, I'm looking out for a proper 1/72 M23 armament system for the UH-1H I know about the SHQ white metal set, while the figures are looking quite appealing, the armament system itself is not really convincing. Does anybody know if there are other options around? MTHX Wiggi
  14. Hi Reedoak made an SPH-4 US Army helicopter pilot helmet (for Huey and others) This helmet was also used in gulf war, and until recently, before replacement by the HGU-56/P. Interior is detailled. Vietnam : left in 1/35, center in 1/48. The one right in 1/35 is post-vietnam with velcro plates on the back. and lost in the inside... cheers Norbert
  15. Hi, We have an active IPMS Special Interest Group - Asian Air Arms - that is devoted to post-1945 Asian military forces. 16. Hi all, In late ‘60s USAF introduced twin-powered Cessna O-2A to replace single engine Cessna O-1 (my next project). Testors/Italeri kit is acceptable but almost basic. It needed a lot of improvements that they absorbed me for 6 months and 293 hours of real work. Cockpit with avionics rack and rear junction box is fully self-made (... except for cloches). Continental IO-360 engine is coming by 2 sets of edited Lycoming taken from old Esci Cessna 172 kits to set up a 6 pistons propeller. Firewall bulkhead, front gear bay and plates are made by styrene. Rivets and panels
  17. Greetings folks. I have another question for the F-4 experts out there. Sometime in the near future I am looking to do a dual build of a Vietnam era Wild Weasel Hunter Killer team out of Korat RTAFB. For those that don't know, the F-105F/G Wild Weasels typically flew in a 4 ship of two F-105s with a two ship of F-4E's. According to Ed Rasimus in his book Palace Cobra, the F-4's typically carried 4 CBU-52s/SUU-30 canisters. Unfortunately that's about all he says about the weapons load. I've done quite a bit of online research and found some options but I don't know if any are of the "killers".
  18. Hi, I'm putting together a wheels-up 1:48 MiG-17 to go with an F-4B in similar configuration Could anyone recommend a suitable after-market pilot figure to man this aircraft ? Keith
