  1. This started as as a P-3C and was modified to a P-3B config of the Argentinian Navy using reference pictures. I filled the sonobuoy tubs, added Eziline HF wire antennas, and updated the antennas to reflect the Argentine fit. The model was also rescribed. Paints are mainly Gunze acrylics and SMS lacquers. Decals are the From DekLs sheet.
  2. Hello Phantom Phans. This WIP is for the forthcoming Brigade Models conversion set for Academys F-4B into the prototype F4H-1. I have obtained from Kevin a pre production test shot of the mouldings as seen at SMW this year. This does not include canopies or decals as they are not ready yet. Availability of the set should be March next year. Kevin has agreed to add a second seat so later small radome aircraft can be built. Any changes for this will be up to the modeller, as the main purpose here is for a first flight aircraft. Also, there are no instructions (I suspect I may be w
  3. Inspired by a discussion about building a Su-37 - The discussion suggested combining the back end of the 1/72 scale two-seat Zvezda Su-30SM with the front end of the Zvezda Su-33 to make the single seat Su-37. A new longer (and slightly fatter) nose is needed - along with taller, square-tipped fins - plus a few other minor changes - but the whole thing looks do-able. I have both kits in my stash, so I got both out for comparison - and liked what I saw.... so here goes.... As they are both from the same manufacturer, the panel lines
  4. Ever since finding this photo of the Balao-class sub USS Sealion, I have wanted to try and model her...... All I needed was a 1/350 scale model of a Sikorsky HRS-3 helicopter to place on her widened deck aft of the fairwater..... Then I found that Shapeways Models made a 3D-printed S-55 helicopeter - so I was ready to start... I'm using the AFV-Club Gato-class sub as a starting point....... Sealion is a Balao-class sub (improved Gato), so I needed a late-style fairwater - also made by Shapeways.....
  5. 1) The Model - Airfix 1/72 E-3D converted to an E-8C using the Flightpath conversion set 2) Year/Month started - According to my first build thread it was on July 14, 2016, so one of the later additions to the Shelf 3) When the project stalled and why - I had an issue with the engines, the tailpipes had been over sanded and I was not happy with there shape/condition, then there were some poorly rescribed panel lines and seams that needed correcting. Since the last image in the second build thread, it has had a lick of paint which I was not overly happy about. 4) What is left to
  6. Finally finished - my Su-27IB conversion - combining the front end of an Italeri Su-34 mated to the back end of a Heller Su-27UB trainer to make the prototype Su-34.... (exactly what Sukhoi did! - grafting a new front end onto a Su-27UB) The WIP is here...... I wanted to make my 'Platypus' as it was displayed to the leaders of the CIS countries near Minsk, Belorussia in 1992.... fully tooled up with a full load of dummy weapons... Note the differences to the final production Su-34 - no fat tailboom, single main wheels, tal
  7. As I am building the latest iteration of the Sukhoi Su-34 - I thought I'd have a go at the earliest version - the T-10V1 Su-27IB. I originally thought of just grafting the original Su-27 tailboom onto the Italeri Su-34 kit - but the biggest problem I faced was filling in the mainwheel wells - they are huge on the Su-34 and cut into the intake sides - the whole area is totally different between the Su-27IB and production Su-34. So I have adopted the method that Sukhoi used - grafting the new side-by-side cockpit section front fuselage onto the rear of a tandem two-seat S
  8. Hey Everyone, It's been a while since I’ve posted anything. Here’s my first completion of 2018. A 1/144th Eduard MiG-21PFM of the Mongolian AF. I used a RetroWings resin cockpit and the PFM conversion from JBr Decals. Really easy and nice conversion, and I’ll build another since I’m not happy with how my paint finish turned out. First time posting an image since the whole PB issue...better pictures to come. John
  9. I'm thinking of trying to pick up Quick boost's OH-6A conversion. I saw (somewhere) that the Academy kit is recommended. If the Academy and Hasegawa kits are essentially the same plastic then I'll probably pick up whichever is cheaper. For some reason the Minicraft/Hasegawa releases seem to go cheaper. I remember building both of the earlier Hasegawa releases back when they first came out and I remember them as being pretty basic kits that went together pretty well. TIA
  10. So this will be my first work-in-progress, it's going to be a 1/32 Tamiya F-16CJ kit, converted into the F-16A 3-tone Grey Aggressor used the NSAWC for training with the GT Resin NSI inlet, exhaust, as well as parts for the smaller gear and non-bulged doors, KASL F-16A tail (modified to remove the parabrake housing), Two Bobs F-16A Aggressor decals, and True details F-16A cockpit. Love this camouflage scheme for Black 56, and all the touch-ups and fading on it will make for some good airbrushing fun. Here's the cockpit to start and then with the back area removed
  11. Cheers folks, I'd like to show you a few photos of my 1/32nd scale EA-6B Prowler, a scratchbuilt conversion based on Trumpeter's A-6A kit. This conversion required the whole bunch of techniques I have access to - CNC milling, laser cutting, 3D printing and classic scratchbuilding. The decal artwork was drawn by me and then silk printed in Czech Republic. I am currently working on a carrier deck diorama , USS Kitty Hawk's port stern section to be precise; this is the area at least one Prowler was typically parked. The Birdcage was fully scratchbuilt as it has
