haneto
As I'm getting tired from MiG-31,I decided to move on a small plane to change mood. KP's kit is aweful, though quite accurate in shape and the raised rivets look quite good to this kind of plane. I add Extratech PE to the kit and no more additional detailing-up at first...... Injection seat, with PE.I didn't put much energy on it 'cause it won't be seen after assembling. Just as what I've thought, very limited sight. Control panel is PE+Film. Wheels. There's no details on small parts of KP kit. :D Gear covers are PE,nice stuff!Worth my money. The radome is too low after assembing to the body.So I add some plastic sheet and will sand it after drying. I changed all the panel lines and some rivets from raised one. The canopy is too big.Before. After.I cu aways almost 3mm from bottom. I'll go to a whole week vocation next week so it won't be updated till next weekend!
Laurent
Another great build from you. This is getting boring... ;) I love the MiG-17PF/PFU and MiG-19P/PM because they look funny to me: it looks like they're sticking their tongue out. "Blah" does the airplane :D How did out paint the cockpit ? I didn't know it was completely blue-gray. No black instrument panels ? "Blah" does the airplane :)How did out paint the cockpit ? I didn't know it was completely blue-gray. No black instrument panels ? Hi,Laurent! Indeedly MiG-17PF/MiG-19PM are always my favourite, too. The same feeling as you, tongue sticker. I painted the instrument panels all in blue-gray as the J-5(MiG-17) serving in PLAAF has a whole blue-grey cockpit. Maybe a little different from Soviet one.
AnthonyWan
Ah yes, another Haneto 1/72 build :D As your next aircraft, I recommend a 1/72 Su-34  Doing one of those myself probably.
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
How did out paint the cockpit ? I didn't know it was completely blue-gray. No black instrument panels ? Overhauled at a non-Party-controlled facility Seriously, though, it's a neat project. I love KP MiGs, partly b/c of the extra effort you have to put on them...neat to have a terrific airframe even if you have to add decent landing gear and such. Beats the other way around. :D
Matthias
Looks great. But IĂÂŽd advise you to look for a vac canopy from Pavla.

haneto
Hi,all!I came back from my trip yesterday and started with it today. Here's some new progress. Sanding the head. Rescribe the lines and some rivets. Awful assembly I had to use liquid putty to fill the gap. Ready for painting!

Well,I've not decided the scheme at last in fact. But I refer to make the "Red 2074" which flown by an Ace of PLAAF,Wenli Wang. He shot down a P2V-7 in 1966 and then was awarded the nickname of "Night Hunter".
bad edd
Great job Haneto! I have built two Kp's so far, i have to warn you that they have some big problems. The wingtips are not correct in form (too round), the elevators are over 1 cm too big and the tailplane hasn't got the corect angle. You may want to compare the kit to some drawings, ANY drawings, while is not too late!!! bad edd
Some pictures that try to explain:

You've forgot to write that the wing chord is all wrong: the wing is too narrow by perhaps 3mm. Still the KP looks right to me: I did not feel the need to try matching the kit over the drawings before your posts. Thank you for the infos.
JackMan
How did you create the rivets on the wings? Hasegawa riveter? Thanks
Laurent
How did you create the rivets on the wings? Hasegawa riveter? The kit comes with these rivets. The ones in the MiG-19 and the MiG-15UTI kits are even better and finer.
JackMan
The kit comes with these rivets. The ones in the MiG-19 and the MiG-15UTI kits are even better and finer. :D I thought the KP kits all had raised panel lines. Do the newer KP/Mastercraft kits have recessed ones? Also, haneto's fuselage appears to have raised ones: Or did I view the rivets wrongly? The ones on the wings look recessed to me: Maybe it's the lighting/camera angle?
Laurent
Maybe it's the lighting/camera angle? It is. I have the model in front of me. I've kept the raised surface detailing. Black preshading, coat of Klir to protect the black paint, aluminium paint, very light sanding to uncover the (black) raised detailing... JackMan
Black preshading, coat of Klir to protect the black paint, aluminium paint, very light sanding to uncover the (black) raised detailing... Good technique! Thanks for that
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Agreed, sounds like a good approach...can't wait to see how it turns out!
Laurent
Agreed, sounds like a good approach...can't wait to see how it turns out! It has been built perhaps five years ago but my camera is dead <_<
haneto
Thank you for all you attention, guys! Here's the (past) progress. The canopy does not fit the fuselage. So only sanding and dry-fitting work. And I corrected the shape on the end of it by putty and sanding. Pito tube is replaced with brass rod. The front part of camera has to been made myself. 23mm guns are all brass rods. Rescribe the panel line on fuel tanks, with plastic sheet made fins.
