Here are some photos of my 410 cockpit. I've got the wings assembled, and the landing gear painted. I hope to close the fuselage and and add the wings this afternoon.

I actually preshaded some of the cockpit (I'm not a fan of it, but it seemed to help the cockpit since it is so dark in there). I added the yellow wiring with bits of fine wire. The harnesses are Eduard PE. I used a wash of Tamiya smoke, flat coated, and followed up with a drybrush of light grey and steel. It came out pretty well, I think.

I should have routed the pilots harness through the seat back, but I took the lazy way out and just draped it over the seat back.

I'm not much of a photographer, so bear with the crappy quality of the photos.

Enjoy,

Chris

Hi Chris

I'm not much of a cockpit-enthousiast because i tend to appreciate the overal shape of a plane more than the inner workings but you sure did a superjob on this Me-410 so far! I have to be honesrt that i really do enjoy watching you guys put so much efford into those cockpits and turning them into little models in their own right though

Looking forward to some more progress, you guessed it....i want to see those fuselage halves together and some wings added :D

Cheers

Now that you have the cockpit done, I am not sure I should post this picture of how the shoulder belts attach

Image Shack gave me errors (page not found) every time I tried to upload it yesterday. Finally got it to take today.

Is this the R/M 1/48 kit? If so, hiw did you manage to get the instrument panel pieces straight?

Matt

Yea its the R/M kit, its the same as the Promodeler one too. I have had look at mine and I would glue the panel one at a time and hold it place with you fingers till it takes

Matt,

It's the 1/48 PM kit. I used the TLAR method to get the instrument panels precisely in the right spot. That....Looks.....About....Right :)

Seriously, I used super glue and just held them in place with tweezers until the glue set. It's probably not the correct angle, but I'm not a rivet counter and I don't let details like that get in the way of finishing a kit.

Scott,

It was enamel coated wire from Radio Shack. I bought a pack 3 pack of different sized spools for about $4. I just drilled a hole in the back of the instruments put a dab of superglue on the hole and stuck the wire in. I bent the wire to shape and painted it yellow when I had it prebent. (If you try to bend it after you paint it, the paint will crack and peel off. Ask me how I know. :bandhead2: )

Pretty simple and inexpensive scratch building trick. I can't take credit for it. I got the idea of adding wire from looking at Bill Lachance's incredible luftwaffe builds.

Thanks Chris! Your talking about the wire that is sold for doing electrical motor windings? It comes in Red, Green and I think brass color in different diameters? If so I have that already :worship:

OK.....

Finally time for an update. I wasn't able to model much during the last 6 weeks, and when I had a little free time, I spent most of that free time masking the 410's greenhouse canopy! ;)

When it got especially tedious - (which was often, because the canopy has to be masked on both the inside & outside) - I worked on my 1/48 Promodeller Fw-190D11. It is a mostly OOB build with a few small details added.

On to the 410.. The cockpit & airframe are complete awaiting an alcohol bath and a paintjob!

Here's a shot showing the canopies..

That's it for tonight. I hope to finish the prep work on the Fw190 tomorrow. Then I can paint both aircraft at the same time.

Chris,

Thats some fantastic detail work on the cockpit and very sharp painting, superb. I can see where your spending your time now ;) , but well worth the effort.

Looking forward to seeing more of the progress now the wings are on.

Cheers

Scott,

Yes, I will post photos. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the cockpit before I closed the fuselage. Oh well. This kit isn't a shake and bake kit! ;) I started it while the subassemblies on the 410 were drying. I wish I had chosen one of the Tamiya 190's in my stash instead.

From what I've been told and what I've read, the PM D11 kit isn't a great likeness of the D11 OOB. There are numerous shape issues. I chose to model mine OOB, because I didn't intend this project to get involved. It was supposed to allow me to throw something together easily while the 410 dried.

As soon as I get the first coat of paint on the D11, I'll post some pictures. That SHOULD be sometime next week.

Thanks for the nice comments, gents!

Outstanding work Chris. I'm anxious to see how you deal with the construction of the canopy. The parts fit pretty well, but I just couldn't align them properly *and* deal with the seam on top. Thus, my Me-410 is not done. Hopefully you will have better luck on your kit.

Cheers,

Shawn

Here she as after a marathon painting session last night.

Shawn, you were correct. That canopy was a beotch to fit. I practiced dryfitting it for a few times before I actually applied the glue. I used clear 5 min epoxy, so I only got one chance to get it right. ;) It's not perfect, but it's about as good as I could do.

Also, for those of you building this kit, be sure to trim the rear gunsight before you add the canopy. The kit part is too wide to allow the canopy to fit. I cut my gunsight apart & shortened the base to get it to fit under the glass.

Enough BS.... On to the pictures!
