I'm a sick, sick, sick, sick man... 1/48 MiG-25RB

Recommended Posts

Dave, the resin exhausts are looking really good. Have you got the other one on yet? Looking forward to the rest of this build. It looks absolutely awe-inspiring.

Thanks, I actually just got the second one on today for a test fit... need to trim the ends on the internal petals so they are even, but it is moving along, albeit slowly. Ten more years in the Navy and I can do this all the time instead of wasting so much life at work. I also worked on a significant gap between the port vertical tail and the fuselage...fun. Hopefully I can drop a primer coat on the whole thing by the weekend.

Cheers,

Dave

Very well done, dawestsides bloke, going all the way down to rescue this thread! We've all been wondering aloud whut was of Dave's project, just as much as the Japanese at Hakodate wondered whut was of Viktor Belenko after he landed his MiG-25P...

Dave...? Dave...???

Sorry, spent the last six months underwater doing the country's business...just got home a few days ago and I have been reconnecting with the family and cleaning from some minor flooding in the basement about a week before I returned. Nothing too bad, but my two main Foxbat references got nailed... both of Gordon's books... oh, well, got to find replacements. A few kits had some minor wetting, but a pile of minor references got worked over pretty good. I'll be back to work in a few days on the Mig and the others.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi there, Dave!

Welcome back, mate! Damn, sorta a weird irony to be back in the surface to then find there's a flood in yer cellar, huh...? Didn't it make ya think this world is indeed upside down?

Hope ya can go on with this awesome build in no time; y'know I almost hyperventilated after seein' yer thread back on first page like twenty days ago.

False alarm. :)

So, how's the family doin,' Dave? Nice to see ya back, mate! :jaw-dropping:

Cheers :sign_spam:

Managed to get a little bit of work done. I have been cleaning up the exhausts so that I can finally mount them. There are three little air bubble holes that don't want to fill. I have also fixed a problem with the starboard vertical stab...the tip was too short where it attached to the fuselage so I chopped the tip some more and added a piece of sprue to it from my F4U build and sanded to shape. I have also been working the MLG some to finally get them done. Sorry no pics...I have no photo editing software on any of the computers at the moment... wife tried to upgrade while I was on deployment and CS4 doesn't want to load cleanly anywhere. I'll get it figured out.

Cheers,

Dave

Ok, huge step...the exhausts went on today...had to push one down slightly and the other up slightly to correct a slight misalignment in the aft fuselage insert. A little sanding will make it all disappear...now I can concentrate almost completely on the landing gear. I'm taking pics as I go, but I still don't have editing software.

Kasatka, thanks for the offer. I have gotten the redstar book replaced and the older one is on its way. I also have a ton of pics on an external harddrive. It was just hardcopy stuff that I need to reprint that was a pain in the loss.

Cheers,

Dave

More sanding and tweaking. Corrected a small error in the port ventral fin and I have been cleaning up different spots here and there in preps for some primer sometime soon. I have wandered through a couple different plans for the MLG and haven't been happy with anything yet. I may not correct the horrible for due to weight concerns and I may just work them up some with detail to make them look better. I'm not quite sure. I don't want to short the build by not fixing the MLG but my patience is a little thin and time is limited before yet another move.

Cheers,

Dave

Good to see you're back home safely, Dave. Bummer about the basement, though. Seems like almost everyone up there had some serious issues with that.

Looking forward to the latest pics!

Ok, some pics...

The tip of the vertical stab that had to be fixed with a sanded piece of sprue... attached the sprue first and then sanded to shape..you can see I also forced a piece of rod into a "trench" in the leading edge and sanded it to shape too...

The exhausts in place...still plenty to do back here, but it is a big step forward...

I'm tempted to through primer on her and get a look at the surface. I think I am wasting a bunch of time on spots that may not need it anymore... I just want to move forward some.

The mohawk was my own doing, the beard was around 70 days old...the blue was dyed cake frosting...it was a good time. Travelling the Suez was quite a trip. I was topside as the supervisor (hence the 9mm) for each pilot transfer and I convinced the CO each time to let us stay up for a bit to look around...

Cheers,

Dave
