DutyCat
I am doing a 737-200 and the painting intructions call for gray trailing edge on the top of the wing, but doesn't mention anything at all about the bottom of the wing or trailing edge fuel tanks. Are the tanks gray or NMF? If the tanks are gray, is the bottom of the wing partly gray also?
Trojan Thunder
Tanks???? Engines perhaps? Which scheme are you doing? It really depends on the carrier. Some 737-200s had baremetal engine nacelles with the entire wing grey. This is one I did a few years ago and has grey (Boeing grey) engines and wings.
David Walker
Yes, it's going to depend on which airline was operating the aircraft. What markings are you going to use? That will make your question easier to answer. Edited December 3, 2006 by David Walker
buzz
I gather from your other thread that you're doing the US Air scheme. Those aren't trailing edge fuel tanks. They're the fairings over the flap actuators. This photo shows the underside of the wing and flap track fairings to be Boeing Grey. BTW, you'll need to modify the engines to reflect the later advanced version - check out that photo. Best to check photos of the the particular airplane that you're modelling. HTH. Ben Brown
If you don't want to go through the hassle of modifying the kit engines to Advanced config, you can get some Braz 737-200 resin engines from Airline Hobby Supplies. They also carry decals to do the corogard on the tops of the wings and detail decals that will give you door outlines, windows, stencils, etc. You can almost triple the price of that old Airfix kit (if you're working in 1/144 scale). DutyCat
Ray, Nice job. What color gray is that on the wings? I am using MM enamels. I am unsure exactly what "Boeing Gray" is. I was just going to use a "light aircraft gray." Buzz, You surmise correctly. The US Air NMF scheme is the one. That pic is a good shot with lots of little useful painting details. Someone told me years ago that those trailing edge wing fairings were conformal fuel tanks. Obviously, looking at the articulations of the wing in that pic, they are not, as you have pointed out. However, it seems to me that the although the fairings are definitely gray, the rest of the wing underside might be a dirty NMF. Take another look and let me know what you think. Ben/Buzz, I usually do contemporary jet fighters. The 737 is a cheap club GB, so I am not really sweating the specific engine variant. I just want it to be representative of the 200 series and have a nice scheme. But thanks for the link and info. At least I know it out there! As usual, everyone is very helpful. Thanks! David Walker
A perfect match for Boeing Gray is Model Master #2039, Canadian Voodoo Grey FS16515.

DutyCat
HAAAA! Well that one looks pretty gray(grey) for sure! Thanks. Voodoo Gray? Thanks David and Aussie. I wonder if MM still makes that color.
David Walker
Yes, they do. I bought mine just a couple of months ago at my local hobby shop. It's also listed at Squadron.
