GrandpaVader
Well I finally got around to working on the Revell Germany ARC-170 kit I've had for awhile now. This is one of Revell Germany's easy kits, in other words pre-painted but this one I stripped, painted and used some aftermarket parts. Here is what I started with... Box Art - A little blurry sorry... Since the kit is rather plain, I picked up a cockpit and landing gear kit from Controled Energy Design, and since I will be painting the kit myself I would need decals so I picked up a sheet from JM Enterprises. The original kit lacks landing gear and the cockpits are really plain, but adding the cockpit kit really spices things up. I also cut out a black panel on the side of the fuselage and replaced it with a window, as seen in the movie... The next couple of shots show the landing gear. The kit is not designed for them so the aftermarket kit has a replacement part and a bay that needs to be cut in. One lesson learned about this kit, if you are going to repaint it, is strip the paint while it is on trees, it's a lot easier... I sprayed the kit Camoflauge Grey and added Crimson Red for the accent panels. I then used Lt. Ghost grey for more panels along with Jet Exhaust and Black and Dk Ghost grey to round out the engines and other panels. After the decals were applied I used a number of washes and dry brushed the kit with Lt Ghost Grey. After a coat of clear flat I added some accents with MM Metalizer Exhaust. Enjoy! Philp
GV, Nice looking build. I also have one of these to get to, hopefully done for the Nats. I have been looking at the cockpit/landing gear set over at Starship. Is this the same set? If not, do you have a contact for purchasing? Thanks

Thanks That is the set, they currently out of them on SSM, I wanted another one for the other kit I have... The kit was fantastic, the only comments I will add is they need to make one change to the directions, and hopefully that will be included in any new kits made. In the first step where they have you removing pieces from the kit, the tell you to remove the blacked out panels on the side of the fuselage. In the movie, these are windows, but the directions don't tell you what do with the openings after they are open, and no Clear parts are provided to fill the space. So you need to decide if you want to open the windows or not, and if you do you will need to make your own windows for the space. Otherwise it was a fantastic addition to the kit. madmike
Most excellent. Are they making any more of the resin cockpit sets at all? :D MikeJ
Jay Chladek
One minor clarification about the decals. They are made by "JMC Enterprises" and are available exclusively at CultTVman.com as part of a decal set which also includes replacement markings for the E3 Jedi Starfighters as well (works both with the Revell and the AMT kits). madmike
Jay Got your decals not long after I got the ARC-170 from Centuryfan. However I was unaware until now of a resin cockpit/landing gear set. MikeJ
Philp
Mike, Here is a link to the set. They are out of stock but you can put yourself on the wish list and when they get them in, they fill them in order. I could of had one of the last batch but couldn't afford it at the time so had to pass. http://www.starshipmodeler.com/cfstore/ind...;Product_ID=

GrandpaVader
Hey Philip thanks for responding to Mike. Mike I dont' really know if SSM is going to get more of those in or not. I picked mine up at Wonderfest last year and I was hoping to get another one from SSM store. I would suggest doing what I am going to do, send Linda at SSM store a PM telling her you are interested, if enough people tell them, they will likely get another batch. I would guess they would order 5-10 so if we get another few people....
