moeggo
I’m going to build Monogram's 48th PBY-5 mostly out of the box, I do have the Eduard PE set and a True Details resin wheel set for it. I haven't decided on what markings I'm going to do. I would love to it as a Royal New Zealand Air Force Catalina. I knew that someone did do some decals from them but it looks to no longer available. So I will, most probably use something out of the box for decals. What I have done so far - Wings are assembled. Cockpit and Waist Gunner section has been assembled and painted int. Green I have cut out the excess moulded plastic from the engine intake grills

Dr Fester
Looks great so far Dave :D Had a quick search for NZ decals and I think it was Aeromaster which produced a sheet for NZ PBY's. "48-10: Royal New Zealand Air Force in WWII" Looking forward to seeing more of your build. Doc
Nev
Hope you manage to track down that decal sheet Dave - I'm sure on of the fine people on ARC will be able to help you out :)

moeggo
Finally I got sometime to work on this huge cat during the weekend! After mowing the lawns and housework and have family around, I made some time for it! At the moment it does look like much, but I have masked off all the clear glass bits used Eduard Express mask's, added the PE bits around the windows and filled the seams andI just waiting for them to dry to do a bit of sanding! I haven't had any luck in finding the RNZAF WW2 Decal sheet that I want so I could do PBY-5 NZ4017 of Flying Boat Sqn 6 . So I will be using the decals out of the box! moeggo
Thanks Erwin!! That would be great!! I be waitng to hear from you!!!!
aurora-7
How about painting your own NZ markings? It's a big enough model to make the masking of the roundels an easier task than a 1/72 scale kit. And the letter/number markings could come from an existing decal sheet for RAF/RAAF/RNZAF subjects. Maybe RNZAF markings for other 1/48 kits could be used?
moeggo
I starting to look at making my own masks and painting them or trying to find decals off another kit. The reason I would like to have the aeromaster decals is they have the markings for P-40 Gloria and a coupl of TBF's that we used during WW2 that I would like to do! moeggo
Got a bit done on this one too today, while I was waiting on bits the dry on the He 219 for the DotR Gb. I had primed it the other day and there were some gaps and seams that needed to be filled again. So a bit of sanding was done today. I also glued on the wing braces today and hoping to mask off the waist gunners holes and start giving a coat of blue!
moeggo
Another little up date! Dave Lake aka 'HistnScale' is going to supply the Aeromaster sheet that I require for the RNZAF Catalina that I'm wanting to do! Once again Dave, Thank you very much!!! Dr Fester
Thanks to Dave Lake I had been hunting around for that decal sheet and asking many people, glad you got it sorted. Also great progress, she looks magnificent. Doc
moeggo
A little update! Since I had a bit of luck lately finding someone with a set of 1/48 WW2 RNZAF Decals (Thanks again to David Lake) and someone else had a spare eyeball turrent from the PNY-5A kit (thanks to Steve aka Rigby). I thought that I would start painting this bird! So I pull out a Tamiya Med Blue and Flat White and started to make my own RNZAF Blue.... and filled up the big pottle for the air brush and started shooting the homemade blue and what happens.....??? I run out of paint halfway through the wing!!! And I'm out of flat white!!!!!!!!! I know where I going tomorrow at lunch time! The blue looks a lot darker in the photo! but its very light!
