Accurate Miniatures P-51's

Recommended Posts

I placed an order for an Accurate Miniatures F-6B today from Sprue Brothers..after seeing the same aircraft in the Detail and Scale book I got (damn I hate when that happens! LOL)...but I was just curious as to how well they go together and if there is any gotchas with the kit.

Be careful I have one of these and the nose section is entirely wrong it has the nose and narrow carb intake of the P51 in the one I got . Not a real problem for me as I have a spare P51A nose section , but be aware of the problem . May have been resolved by now .

yeah I found a thread here on the F-6B after posting this...I'm looking at getting P-51A if this is still the case.

I've built one. They are great kits, with one exception. That being the fit of the tail to the halves first and then the joining of the two halves together. It can be tricky to fit together right.

I want to build another Mustang and personally I want to get the Tamiya kit and see how it goes together.

I have at least one of every version AM made. the only real gripe I have is the complete lack of armor plating for the pilots seat. Not a big deal to scratch build yourself, but I would've thought that would be something they wouldn't have missed.

The Tamiya kit falls together nicely. No fit problems at all. It's an easy kit to do a NMF scheme on as there are no real seams so not alot of filling and sanding required. The only real issue with it is the curved metal floor. However, it's nearly impossible to notice once painted and built. It's also easy to get the main gear well "right" since the main spar is part of the lower wing and the gear well detail is on the upper.

They are super kits....and till recently, if I am not wrong, they were the only ones in the market...ICM has released Allison engine Mustangs too, and although I)´ve not seen one of them, if they are like theirs Spitfires, should build into a grat model too :)
