My Tiltrotor Escort

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally managed to finish something this year. It's taken me a while to just finally sit down and put the last touches on this and put it on the shelf next to my A-10W in USMC MARPAT. Have a look:

The AV-22 will have to wait until after the move to Quantico (a story for another time).

Ok this is different and wierd but very cool looking. When I looked at the first picture I said to myself it is a ??????? what a minute, then I looked at the second picture and I said it is a ??????? then I just gave up and said this thing looks really neat and there was some serious planing behind this project.

Very Cool!

Well it all started on another forum, we were discussing a possible escort for use with the V-22. As it happened, a few modelers started brainstorming and this is my version. It started life as a 1/48 OV-10 and a 1/72 V-22 with a lot of putty and a few curses I managed to put this together. Definitely a good way to try my hand at scratch building and kitbashing on smaller assemblies.

First off, Welcome to ARC LemonJello!!!

Glad to see you come over!

Second, your Escort Tilt Rotor looks great (nice tail code BTW); I need to break out my build and get back to work on it. And I was at AAA down in Marietta this afternoon and I was this close to picking up a set of MAW decals 1:48 AH-1W/UH-1N markings. Now I realize that I should have!

Welcome over, John! :)

(1) Awsome weapons platform carrying some (2) awesome weapons! 1+1=RUN!!! :salute:

The Camo Patchwork really looks nice!!

The great thing about doing what you did to this build is, from now on when you encounter a *problem* area on a regular build, you won't be as intimidated about digging right in and fixing it!

Thanks for showing it over here...

This build has given me a lot more confidence to get back into my AV-22 gunship, and finish that one up next, that's for sure.

I probably should have kept more of the leftover pieces from the OV-10 kit, but I've had to start thinking about what is going to get packed up for the relocation and what just needs to go. (Sorry, no kits in the stash will be sacrificed in this process)

With apologies to LJ for jumping into his thread, here's a different take on the Armed Tiltrotor Escort that came from the same discussion. I made it from a V-22, Cessna Citation fuselage and a few parts from an AV-8B.

As an engineer, it always interests me to see different approaches to the same mission requirements. Neat stuff.

There's a bit more to it than that, from what I can see...

The 20 mm chin turret is from a Comanche; the underbelly stores most likely come from an Apache; the rear guns are from a Pavehawk unless I miss my guess, as is the satcom antenna; the FLIR looks like it comes from a Cobra Company HH-60H update set; and then there's the observation windows which could come from anywhere....

I want one of these. It looks fast *and* nasty.

No apologies needed, Phil. Sure, I'm pretty happy with my design, definitely has an insect/ugliness to it. Yours, on the other hand, is a much sleeker look to my eyes. Really a stunning design to this knuckledragger. Like you said, it's always interesting to see different takes on the basic idea. Glad you posted your photos as a comparison.
