1st Japanese Tanker

Recommended Posts

I was walking out of work today and saw the first (of four) Japanese KC-767 tankers returning from a test flight on final approach to McConnell AFB here in Wichita.

The aircraft has now been painted up in Japanese markings and this will probably be the only time that I will ever get to see a JASDF aircraft...

Thought I'd share what I saw

Enjoy!

Did it used to have some type of flag motif on the tail before it got JASDF markings? I could have sworn that the last time I was in Wichita, that I saw a KC-767 with something resembling the British Airways "waves" on the tail.

I do like the look of the KC-767....have read that its a somewhat disappointing aircraft performance wise though. Apparently Boeing struggled to strengthen it enough for the amount of fuel it has to carry without making it *really* heavy, so the end result is a tanker that doesn't carry much more fuel than a KC-135 despite the fact that it should be able to haul a lot more!
