Poll: Tomcat Poll

Recommended Posts

I liked the full colour final CAG from VF-33, the one with a white star and full colour lightning bolt. Bob, Brian you guys know this one ..(hint, hint!)

In my opinion, 30+ years is pretty damned historic. How many fighters, not bombers or transports have been in frontline service, at the tip of the spear for that long. Certainly nothing before the tomcat or phantom.

VF-2 Bounty Hunters hi-vis and lo-vis schemes looked good too.

I'll put my vote in for this one.....

But I am partial of course, to the -84/-103 birds.....

The low viz Wolfpack scheme I always liked too....

Like previously posted....ask 100 ARC'rs and you'll get 200 answers...

I'm going to go off the beaten path a bit. A few of my favorites are:

VF-33 - TPS scheme w/ dk gray tails, lightning bolt and star outlined in gray, and the lightning bolt on the fuselage in dk gray outline.

VF-102 - Overall gull gray with red rudder/white diamonds like they had on their Phantoms.

VF-24 - TPS with black tails/white rudder and the 70's style "swoosh".

VF-1 - Overall gull gray with small wolf's head, diagonally stacked NE, and a 2 surrounded by stars on lower corner of the rudder.

VF-101 - TPS with red (with white cheat lines) skunk stripe, tail fins, tips of stabs, and tips of wings. It also had the squadron badge on the tail. (If you wait patiently, this one will actually be out in decal form in the near future.... )

VF-2 - Overall gull gray with bright markings from the Ranger days. I think this has something to do with the book "Cutting Edge".

Just one? Can you just eat one potatoe chip? Well anyway:

Wouldn't it have been cool to see the tail art that size, but in black, on the line birds?

My favorite F-14 Farewell art:

F14B_VF11_NOSEART_COLOR.jpg

Honorable mention :

VF-2 Full color Langley stripes, especially on the "25th Anniversary" scheme on the CAG D, & on the

Final Tomcat Cruise.

VF-31 Pencil scheme, any era.

VF-33 Final scheme with the black tails & grey star, & the black outline thunderbolt on the side of the nose

VF-74 Red devils head, not the blue.

VF-102 from its last few deployments with the black/red stenciling.

VF-103 since everyone has to have a favorite JR scheme, I choose the black & white markings from the late

90s when they were on the Ike & Enterprise.

VF-111 "Miss Molly".

VF-211 Bicentennial CAG. Stripes, baby.

Incaroad, that is an amazing job on the VF-111 build. The cockpit is absolutely stunning! Easily the best F-14 model I have ever seen in my 20 years of building Tomcat models.

My top five ...

1.) Jolly Rogers - Any of the schemes worn by -84 and -103 ...

2.) WOLFPACK's "Medium-Viz" schemes of the 80s ...

3.) (tie) VF-211/VF-24's scheme in Lo-Viz (A+, B time period)

4.) VF-101 Grim Reapers 2004 scheme ...

5.) VF-32's "Swordsmen Felix" schemes from the late 70s early 80s ...

Being a closet Tomcat fan forever:

1. VF-201 CAG final scheme (black tail)

2. VF-111 Sundowners, TPS, full color tail/sharkmouth

3. VF-143 TPS CAG with the blue stripes in their final cruise

I could go on, I guess I'm not a hater after all.....I do miss it though.

VF-1 Wolfpack's first Tomcat cruise scheme on the Enterprise...gotta love the classics.

That's my second choice, beat out by VF-142 from the mid-late 70's in the gray over white scheme, as seen in the original boxing of the Monogram 1/48 F-14A kit. Always found that one most appealing, in a not-too-over-the-top tasteful scheme way.

Thanks Ish.

The sad part about this model which is a 1/48th Hasegawa F-14A when it first came out is; my X got it in the Divorce I just finished up with as of Jan 1st.

It did however win 1st in Medium scale jets at San Diego IPMS nationals along with a Monogram F/A-18A (split catagory) in 1989, that unfortunately was distroyed by a heavy hand.

I hope to finish a VX-9 F/A-18E XE-100 for the Nationals this year in Anaheim. A short 160 miles from China Lake where I reside...

I was really pleased with the results of this Tomcat. I wish I still had it with me...

Here is a MLG wheel well
