haneto
Thank you again for your nice comments! It's also the very first time for me to challenge full rivetting on 1/72 scale,so I'm now very looking forward to the effect after painting/washing. Nope, not the tapes. The needle thing that has the blue handle...looks like hasegawa scriber...but its blue handle. Oh,that's a metal scriber, made in China.Cheap but quite useful. Maybe you should get yourself some next time when you come back? ;) Yufei

Cheers, Deino ;) Thank you for your nice words, man! :) I also hope my model can bring some hints to Trumpeter, and to make them aware that only scaling down from their 1/32 Flanker is not always a goods method. Well, there're hopes, always. ;)

haneto
Thank you for all you guys. The encouragement from you is always my energy. I did some work on the fins. As the edge is too thick,I sanded it and all the "details" on the tail fins. And this is the method I used to make clear position lights. Use a lighter to soften a clear sprue. Then add it to the molding ruler. And cut it.You can get different types if you have the mold.Very easy and effective. I fullfiled all the lines on the tails by super glue as they are all wrong. Then rescrbing and riveting. Left tail fins. Also left. Dril out the intakes. Some equipments on the top. Right tails fin. Another shot. haneto
The equipments on the top are different from right to left. The intakes are also different. Gear covers riveting.Airfix did a good job on the parts,as least much better than Hasegawa. Add some more details in the wheel bay. Best wishes from Shanghai! (Here we are in summer from this week.Hot weather...... ) Edited November 4, 2008 by haneto

AnthonyWan
Wow Haneto...marvelous job on those tail fins and gear bays. ;) Its getting hot there right? Last summer I was in Beijing around July...it was uncomfortable to say the least :D
haneto
After resting in home for several days because of the illness,I recovered mostly today and finally found some stamina for modelling. ;) So today I finished the intakes area. The intakes of Hasegawa are much better than Airfix in the shape. But Airfix shows more accurate details such as the molds on the intakes. So this time,again,kit-bashing.I used the main part from Hasegawa, while wheel bay from Airfix. Firstly, let's get the area where we need. These are the selected useless parts,I don't wanna call them trash but actually they are... :) In order to save my Hasegawa Flanker kit,I made a pair of resin copy of the intake parts. While purchasing the Quickboost resin radorcone. The heavy works has just begun! Dry-fitting and sanding/cutting finally made the parts OK for the Airfix fuselage. Of course there were still many gaps left,so plastic card and superglue was always the way. After one night's drying, sanding let's go. Sadly, rivets I made last time all gone away. But the sanded area felt so smooth and sexy! ;) Edited November 4, 2008 by haneto
haneto
I add a PE net in the back of the original PE part. And this time,Eduard PE helped a lot. Though quite suffered from the bad assembling... OK,that's all for this week. I hope I can totally recover after this night and go to work tomorrow(I do miss my cute assitant these days!). ;) Edited November 4, 2008 by haneto

janman
Looks amazing! I admire your eye for details. But did you attach the louvres on the sides of the intakes just straight on the surface without making any recesses for them?
joachim
i can not believe this is 1/72, i'll believe this is 1/32 and for that is already great detail. this is realy a piece off art. well done

haneto
Thank you for your nice words and advice, fellow! PS: How is the MiG-31 going? (have i said it before?) Already finished. After it's been published on the model magazine,I'm considering to make a diorama with this Su-27. But did you attach the louvres on the sides of the intakes just straight on the surface without making any recesses for them? Well,I didn't remember making recesses for them, actually. The assembling went hard but no special method was used. ;) Are you using a pounce wheel to add the rivet detail?Jeff No,what I used were only my fingers and the needle scriber from Hasegawa tritool set. I have those wheel-structure tools but sadly found they were not suitable for small scales under 1/48. Even in 1/48,I usually use both methods according to the shape and size of the object. You are giving Flanker the respect he deservs! Of course Flanker deserves it! As the most beautiful jet fighter in the world! sorry to mention this but.....isn't this part a bit over sized?hopping I'm wrong.... Ivan You are right,Ivan. I used this part directly from Hasegawa and found it too big according to the plans. Very easy to correct but I chose neglection as it's not very visible. Maybe I'll change my mind before painting. Thanks a lot for the advice!I really need more!
