Chappie
I'm building a collection of 1/48th motherships & X-planes. As part of this collection I'm also building the chase planes and support aircraft. The X-15 was supported by three Piasecki H-21 "Flying Banana" helicopters. Didn't a company release a 1/48th model of this chopper? Chappie
Smeders
Hi, Aurora and Fonderie Miniatures both released a 1/48 H-21, hope you can find one of them, they seem to have gone into hiding !! HTH Andy

Cobrahistorian
The FM kit is out, but from what I hear, it is a BEAST!

Not FM's best or worst. Get's better than avg $$$ on E-bay when one surfaces. Got 1 but haven't gotten past preliminaries yet. Mine'll be from Homestead Air Force Base in the 60's. If your collection is being built basic go Aurora, if detailed go FM. Post your chase and support as you build them.
Chappie
FM is the kit I was thinking of. Thanks for the info. I plan to post all the aircraft I'm planning for this collection. The B-29/X-1 has been built for about two years and it will be posted this coming 14 October for the 60th Anniversary of Supersonic Flight. Chappie

Cobrahistorian
Just got my Special Hobby H-21 kit today. It looks VERY good. Cabin detail is a little sparse, but there is some rib detail. The rotor hubs are white metal and are very nice. All of the rotor detail is resin too. Glass is all injection plastic, so no R-4B nightmares (I'm still trying to clean up that seam!) Overall it looks like a VERY nice kit! Jon
iaf-man
Jon, Can you compare the two kits(if you have the FM one)? Isaac
Cobrahistorian
Isaac, I don't have the FM one, but from what I'm hearing, the Special Hobby one is light years ahead of it. I've heard the FM kit is a beast. The Special Hobby one looks pretty good. Challenging, but good. On the other hand, a Battle Axe H-25 kit just arrived on my desk. This one's gonna be a bear.... Jon I can confirm that the Special Hobby kit is indeed very nice. Sprue gates a bit thicker than normal but ok. I am really surprised we have not see a brass set from Eduard yet. joe.
