model_madness
Been pondering what the colours for the fuselage ( silver or aluminium? ), rear fuselage ( looks a silver smoke to me ) and exhaust ( burnt metal?? ) are.... I've used f-100.org and other net sources as guides, but just want to hear it from the experts TIA Kevin
Murph
Kevin, Just be aware that Some F-100's were painted silver, not NMF. Those that were painted left the aft section unpainted due to the heat produced in that area from the AB. Regards, Murph
Ben Brown
A good rule of thumb would be anything after about 1959, other than the Thunderbirds, would be silver lacquer. I've got an old magazine with some photos that were taken in 1958, and that jet is also painted silver. The "Triple Zilch" depicted in the Monogram kit was silver lacquer. I've always used various shades of darker aluminum, tinted with a little gold for the aft fuselage. Alclad has just released a Gold Titanium color that sounds like it might be great for the F-100. I also use thinned Tamiya Smoke to add the vertical discolored stripes you see on F-100s. Cheers! Ben
