I am currently building a Hasegawa 1/32nd 109 G6.

Soon I will be ready for some paint to be sprayed and as this is the first prop I have fdone in a very long time I would like to know how others here manage the paint job.

It is to be standard RLM 74, 75 & 76 with mottling and yellow wingtips, yellow stripe around the fusalage and yellow under the engine. Also it needs a white rudder and white band behind the spinner.

Just need to know how others would spray/mask this.

Mank Thanks

Andrew

Andrew,

I would paint the white rudder & spinner first. While you were spraying the white, I would shoot a white coat under where the yellow is to be painted. This will really make the yellow stand out. When the white is dry, spray the yellow.

After the yellow dries, mask the yellow and white areas, then spray the 76 on the undersides and fuselage. Follow with the 75 and finally the 74. After everything has had a chance to sure for a few days, go back with very diluted paint, sparayed at a low PSI and do the mottling.

This isn't necessarily the best way, just the way I would do it.

HTH.

Chris

in general the light to dark order is a good rule of thumb because it is much easier to cover some light color overspray with a darker color than it is to cover some dark color overspray with a lighter color. Specifically for your plane, I would go in the exact order the Chris said.

Well, I could tell ya how mine would play out: Paint the yellow fuselage band and under the nose. Mask them off and paint the white rudder and band behind the spinner. Mask that off and paint the bottom color. Mask the wings, fuselage and tailplanes and paint the RLM 75. Mask off the pattern and spray the RLM 74. Unmask the camouflage colors, remask and spray the overspray under the tail. Remask that and spray the resulting overspray above the tail. Give up on repainting overspray in frustration-nobody's gonna see it anyway. Spray the RLM 75 mottling. Respray RLM 76 over the ones I screwed up. Respray RLM 75 to fix those mistakes. Spray the RLM 74 mottling. Respray RLM 76 over the mess I made of the RLM 74. Respray the RLM 74 mottling. Respray the RLM 75 mottling. Respray RLM 76 on the overspray under the front of the wings. Mask and respray RLM 74 and 75 on the wings to fix the oversprayed RLM 76. Unmask everything. After a few choice expletives, mask and spray the wingtips yellow. Ignore the yellow overspray that's all over it and clearcoat for decals. Build an Accurate Miniatures SBD.

Your mileage may vary...

Here is how I am doing mine... I am spraying the Model Master enamel RLM 76 first, then spraying gunze acrylic RLM 75 and 75 for the mottling... This way, if I screw up the mottling, I can spray some windex on it and start over without getting rid of the RLM 76 undercoat... I found it works real nice in 1/48 scale 109's, so it should be fine for 32nd.
