Andrews AFB airshow

Any one been to the Andrews AFB airshow? I'm planning to take my 8 year old son so any advice will be appreciated.

Help with when to get there, parking, how best to get there, food/drink allowed on base, etc.

Mike,

Since 9-11, they don't let you park on the base anymore. You have to go park at FedEx Field, go through metal detectors, then hop on a shuttle bus over to the base. Its a real pain, but usually worth it as the show is pretty good.

I just found the airshow website.

Gates and show open at 8. When should we get there to go through security and ride the bus?

Also, where is the best place to watch?

Its a large show, and there will be large crowds. If you get to FedEx between 8:00-9:00 you shouldn't have too much trouble getting though security. Its usually around a 20 minute ride to the base itself. As far as watching the show goes, basically the crowds converge at show center and you have stake out your area early if you want to be right up on the show line. Usually there's so many interesting aircraft (all branches of the military are represented) on static display that I spend most of the day wandering around the tarmac anyway. But no matter where you are on the tarmac, you should be able to see most of the aerial action. If you are bringing a child, you might want to consider earplugs. BRING SUNBLOCK! I've been fried one too many times at that show!
