Maveryck
Hey Guys: I recently received Czech Model's FJ-1 Fury. The cockpit, wheels, and nosegear are all resin. The canopy is vac formed. Never having worked with resin I need to know 1) Will CA work to attach the parts to the plastic or do I need to use an epoxy and 2) how difficult is it to remove the parts from the mold bases, will a small hand saw do the trick? Thanks Maveryck
Skull Leader
you will at the VERY least need CA (if not something stronger). Regular model glue has little to no effect on resin. Removing the parts can be tricky, but yes... a small saw can do the trick.
Steve Filak
For removing parts from the pour stubs, have a look here: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/tnt1...esin/TNT002.htm
FlyingSnowmew
A lot of modelers prefer to use epoxy when working with resin. It gives you a lot more working time than CA, but the fumes are much worse.
SBARC
If there is any resin dust...PLEASE wear a respirator. You only get one set of lungs. Steve B
Barneydhc82
Working with resin or any other product has its health problems so take the previous advice on wearing a respirator...or...wet sand under running water. Always wash the resin with liquid dish soap on a soft toothbrush and consider using 5 minute epoxy for large components. If you have excess epoxy oozing out of the joint, use 90% isopropol alcohol on a Q-Tip as a clean up. This removes the excess and helps to fill any small gaps.
