yeehah1
28-05-07 Looking for some advice...I am looking for an F-5E Tiger II kit for some TwoBobs decals ( 48-015) and am looking at either the Italeri 1/48 kit (2615) or the Revell 1/48 kit (4556). Which would be better? I have also seen what I think is hte Esci kit on ebay as well. Recommendations ? Liam
Incaroad
There is only one really nice 1/48th scale kit and that's Monogram's (can't say Revell) F-5E. It is a very nice kit although it shows it's age it's still the only one to use in my opinion. An example built in the mid 80's. Hope this helps. Cheers, Larry. Spooky 01
Hi Liam, just for Your information: the Revell F-5E happens to be a re-issue of the Monogram release. Just as Larry already stated; this happens to be the only game in town in the quater-scale. I would like to point out to You that Larry appearently has put quite some effort in his little Tiger. The enclosed pic's show engraved panel-lines. The Revell/Monogram kit originaly comes with raised panel-lines. Furthermore the Revell-kit also offers the choice to build a 527th AG bird (01535 / "35", black with yellow outline), which use to be based at RAF Alconbury. This aircraft can be build in the "Blue" Camouflage (as intended by Revell). By ommiting the badge on the tail, it can also be build in the "Old Ghost" scheme. If You want to put some effort in it You can also "swap" the "35"-digit's, thus creating 01553 / "53". This Tiger was also used by the 527th AG Squadron. It should be pointed out, however, that this bird had a RED & yellow outlined "bord-number". Therefore You should repaint the black into RED. Should You decide doing so, You can paint the bird into either the "Lizard-scheme" or into the "VNAF-scheme" using colours close to the "Lizard-scheme". Since the Revell F-5E is currently sold for as low as (+/-) 5,00 USD on the net, You might consider buying a couple of these little gem's. I'm sure You'll be able to create a nice little AG-force, together with the Two-Bob's decal-sheet. Hope to have been of some assistance, "Check Six....." Spooky. P.S.: Larry, truly an impressive little Tiger You've build !!!!!

Impatient Pete
Also, since Black Box had made a cockpit for it (which is now almost impossible to find) and Squadron is reissuing old BB stuff under it's label for low prices, MAYBEEEE...some day we will see the F-5 pit released by Squadron? Incaroad
"I would like to point out to You that Larry appearently has put quite some effort in his little Tiger. I put allot into this F-5E but at the same time I think it's the only model I've built that I knew exactly what I wanted from the get go. I started this and finished it in a couple months way back when. The cockpit was enhanced from the original Monogram stuff considerably. I can't say I scratch built the whole thing but I did scratch build allot of it. I can't recall how I did the canopy opening mechanism but I know I robbed parts from some other kits and pieces of styrene and wire. "Since the Revell F-5E is currently sold for as low as (+/-) 5,00 USD on the net, You might consider buying a couple of these little gem's." YES buy lots of them and if you can find the F-5F buy that too!!! "P.S.: Larry, truly an impressive little Tiger You've build !!!!!" Thanks Spooky back in the day it really looked good. Time has faded it considerably. If ya look in the IPMS 1986 convention pics you'll see this one and an F-4E that took 1st place in their catagories. I had an SR-71A there as well and it took a 3rd. Again though, time has taken it's toll on them all. Some crashes and "BROWN OUT" really makes them not look all that good today. Thanks again for your comments. Much appreciated. Cheers. Larry. Spooky 01
Never the less Larry, the little Tiger still looks great on the pic's !!! And besides: we all know "the indisciminitive wrath that comes from the fang's of time...", don't we ?! Just as long as You had a good time building the little lady. As for the F-5F (Monogram, 1/48): buy them all if You come across them. Haven't seen the kit for the last 15 to 20 years. Not even a re-issue... (Don't say I didn't told You so...) "Check Six....." Spooky. P.S.: Liam, good luck with Your Tiger-hunt !!!
