Hasegawa F/A-18E 1/48th

Recommended Posts

I have been having a go at two Hornets these first 2 weeks off from school, an E model and a C. Here are a few pics of the E. I'm a little farther along on the C but it is on hold for the moment.

I have gotten the fuselage together and will now start dealing with some problems, I think most of these problems were of my own making, but nothing a little putty and sanding won't take care of.

On to the pics, thanks for looking.

Alright Will!!! Coming along nicely!!! I think the sprue deal will work well on all those gaps.. U want a piece larger in diameter than the gap width so when U glue in you kinda wegde it in place but still have enough material exposed to close the gap when sanded smooth. The only pronounced seam U want is on the Fwd bottom seam.. That is a panel line... Now... The big Q.... Where was the Batt charger and who found it!!!! ;)

Willy,

Try making Miliput your best friend to tackle those seams. Press the putty into the seam (also use for the intake to fuselage joint) using a putty knife, scrape off excess, and then smooth out with a damp q-tip. while things are setting up go over the panel (gently) with a scribing tool to get your panel looking good.

Thanks Anthony, going to use the Afterburner VFA-105 markings, hoping that they will be released about the time I'm ready to decal

Me too. Which version from 105 will you be doing? CAG or line?

Looking good btw! Thanks for sharing.

Great Job!! It took me a few trys to get the right thickness for my seams as well.. Been so used to streatching sprue for antenna's.. Had to slow the stretch stroke so they wouldn't be so thin.. (Yea I know, I know.. He said stroke)

Keep it up Will!!!

Will.. I just realized that U already did surgery.. Coffee not kicking in as quickly as I want.. So I guess this is for future ref... Just trim the aft parts of the wing mount tabs.. This will allow the fwd join to clear each other... Then just slide the wing fwd... Sorry for the crude pic.. I shot thru the bag

  • 2 weeks later...

hello willie,

Nice recovery on the wing - fuselage joint. It got me worried so i broke my box open and did some test fitting. I realized that if you joined the assembled wings to the upper half of the fuselage before you put the fuselage halves together, there'll be no need to do the surgeries. Thank goodness for this thread.

Sorry had trouble Will! I've done the same thing many times... Ya think.. "Just a couple minutes more and I can get it right".. And it goes south from there.. This is a great hobby isn't it?? Damn streight it is... Well the second effort looks fine... And I'm sure this will be informative to all us that are thinking of the same MOD...

Honestly I think what you had looked just fine. Of course your opinion is the only one that matters. My results after installation appear to be very similar to what you had. I'll post some pics when I can, but it pretty much looks the same if not inferior to your job.

Thanks for the step by step photos. Looking forward to seeing more!

There's a definite lip and my holes aren't the prettiest but it'll pass the 50/50 test. :explode:

ohh and I'm not sure if this matters, but this is the Revell F-18E...
