Cobrahistorian
Mine's got VERY light panel detail on one side. Could it be that the molds were just really old by that point and the panel detail wasn't coming out anymore? Jon
terryt
There isn't any real detail on the right side, check this walk around out: http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/bill_spi...f-100d_55-3754/ And this one, it doesn't show the right side very well but it doesn't have the same plates as the left side: http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/bill_spi...100f_walk_1.htm Edited June 10, 2007 by terryt
Ben Brown
Hi guys, If you're talking about the detail that runs down the left side of the aft fuselage, about even with the training edge of the fin, it's supposed to be that way. It's for the drag chute cable. The chute was stored on the left side of the underside of the fuselage, and the cable ran through a trough up to the base of the tail. There are a bunch of metal plates that cover the trough. I think the crew chief used a screwdriver to pry each plate open to stuff the cable in. The 1/72 F-100 kits have this on both sides. Looks like Trumpeter originally was going to have it on both sides, but stopped halfway through the process. Here's a close-up: Ben

How about parts #75 and 76 (the wing fences that sit on top of the wing 3/4 of the way out)? One is longer then the other in my kits. Is it supposed to be that way? Incaroad
Hmmm you're right, mine doesn't have any at all and it's the second issue.!!! Cheers, Larry.
F4DPhantomII
Ben is correct. As a ex F-100D crew chief I know he's right. The flaps for the drag chute cable were lifted by a screwdriver and the cable was placed underneath. The reason is the chute was stored underneath the fuselage behind split doors and the cable was secured above the engine. On preflight walkaround crewchief with pilotclosed doors and pulled remove beforeflight flag.Esci/Italeri got it wrong.
