Hi guys,

I'm halfway through building that old KP model, and just ordered one of the new Eduark Series IVs. My question is, the KP model gives makings (albeit off register) for S-12, with the yellow bands and mis-orientated roundels, whereas Eduard gives markings for S-13, claiming that this was the only aircraft that has been photographed using the SNP roundels and markings.

Does anyone know the truth behind this, as I would like to have one of the models depicting the last biplane kill in history, but I don't know if its S-12 or S-13!

Cheers guys,

Ryan

Well the MBI book on the B.534 shows S-12 in SNP roundels downing the Ju-52 on the cover, but doesn't go so far as to name the Aircraft in the text, although the kill is actually mentioned...

I can only assume they requested S-12 for a reason, but they don't back it up so it's possible that some artistic license was used.

Edit: Found some more info:

According to http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/slovakia_cyprich.htm, the kill was in Avia B-534.217, and if you look at the bottom of the page, the table there lists airframe 217 as being "S-12".

Also http://aces.safarikovi.org/victories/victo...czech-sssr.html lists the kill as S-12

I can't find any references to S-13 being the plane used.

Thanks Jamie. I'd seen that second site, but not the first. The Eduard instructions are the only place ive seen S-13 referenced at all. http://www.eduard.cz/info/photos/8192/ if you want to have a look yourself.

I think I might build the KP model as S-12 and do the Eduard in another scheme. Safer?

On second thoughts i just re-read the Eduard instructions and it doesn't associate S-13 with the last biplane kill, it just references the kill, but has S-13 as a paint scheme. Sorry!

Thanks,

Ryan

Probably much safer, though it's not like anyone could categorically prove you wrong either way...

Hannants are advertising a decal sheet by HR Models under "Future Releases", it looks as though you'll be able to combine it with the kit decals to make S-12 if you wish, and have enough left over to do anoher Avia with Slovak Axis crosses.
