PlasticWeapons
Hi guys. Currently in the process of painting the Black Box F-4J cockpit parts but I'm stuck! BB instructions refer to the Lock-On series of books as references but neither local hobby shop or public library has any of these available. Can someone scan/email me some Lock-On pics for painting guides? Especially side console details for both cockpits? Thanks in advance. chriss7606
I have some cockpit and ejection seat pics of the F-4S at the MAPS Air Museum in Ohio. They're already on my computer at home. If you want, I'll provide a Photobucket link.
PlasticWeapons
bump! Still in need...
chriss7606
Photobucket link will be up this evening. It is strange that there aren't really any good color pics of Navy F-4 cockpits. The only bad thing was that the MAPS a/c's RIO cockpit had most of the stuff removed, plus it was hard to shoot pics of. The platform went to the leading edge of the intake and the RIO's cockpit is a little farther back, so I was shooting blind. I did manage to get some useful stuff though of both cockpits. I was surprised that the Martin Baker seats were from all appearances complete. Anyways, like I said... link will be up later. Always glad to help!
chriss7606
As promised. I hope these help at least a little. Again, the shots of the RIO cockpit were hard to shoot because of the platform setup... that's also why there isn't a shot of the left side. Enjoy, and always glad to help! http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u124/ch...06/HPIM0241.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u124/ch...06/HPIM0242.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u124/ch...06/HPIM0243.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u124/ch...06/HPIM0244.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u124/ch...06/HPIM0251.jpg
PlasticWeapons
Many, many, many thank you's for the pics! It'll do just fine. With the future Phantom II group build(?), these pics will also help out someone else! I'll have to guess on the detail painting for the left side consoles but this helps out a lot!!!!!!!! chriss7606
From what I could tell the left side was pretty much like the right- gray with black circuit breaker panels (LOTS of them). Any ideas on unit markings?A guy here at work used to be a plane captain for VF-33 when they flew F-4s and he tells some pretty cool stories.
PlasticWeapons
Okay, here's progress on my Black Box F-4J cockpit. Thanks to those who've sent me much needed photos though I sure could use a few more! I know it isn't 100% correct in painting but with the limited number of detail shots available, I had to guess a bit! Please let me know if something should be a different color before I spray a flat clear coat to bring everything together and close up the fuselage! By the way, not every cockpit part is painted yet. Paint: Model Master enamels 1 part Dark Gull Gray mixed with 1 part Flat Gull Gray applied with airbrush (I lightened the dark gull gray because the burnt umber wash will darken the whole thing to dark gull gray anyway!) Cockpit then coated with Future floor polish with a regular brush. Instruments and panels painted Aircraft Interior Black with varying Dk. Gull Gray and Light Sea Gray buttons/switches. Then a wash of Grumbacher's Burnt Umber artist oils mixed with mineral spirits, and later removed with clean mineral spirits. A final drybrush with the 1:1 dark and light gull gray mix to highlight some details! And my other project: An F-8E!
