eastmanace
Is the Testor's 1/48 Banshee ( # 522) the same kit as the older Hawk offering (#502)........if not which is the better kit ?( Better being a relative term, I'm sure). Thanks guys, Cliff
Superheat
Hi Cliff, They are the same kit, not a particularly good Banshee model without a lot of work, more than I have ever been willing to do. Harold of AMS Resin fame was, though, and you can see his here (if you haven't already): http://www.yumodel.co.yu/models/banshee.htm The aircraft is well done in 72nd by Airfix for the early Banjo and Academy/Hobbycraft for the later Big Banjo. In 48th, though, you have only the Hawk/Testors kit or the Collectaire kits, they do both early and late, but at great expense (more than I have ever been willing to pay!). The Banshee family was on AMTech's list, but they, unfortunately, are at best in extended hibernation if not completely dead. Cheers, Tom

Thanks guys, Cliff Here is a thread with my old article on the Testors Banshee. After it was done, it looked every bit the Banshee it was supposed to be. I hope this helps. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....25237&st=15 cheers, Harold
Darren Roberts
Here's my attempt at sprucing up the Testor's Banshee. It's not near as nice as Harold's, but it's going to be behind a glass case in VFA-11's ready room, so it does the trick for that. It at least looks like a Banshee. http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal2...rts/gal1453.htm Edited July 21, 2007 by Darren Roberts
Harold
It looks like you did a lot of work on it. And like I say it looks every bit like a Banshee. I think it is a very good kit to hone the scratch building skills. great work. Harold
chriss7606
I'd like to get one of the HAWK/Testors Banshees myself. Unfortunately they're hard to find. It's too bad about AMTechs's F2H line.
Impatient Pete
Not too hard to get a hold of... http://cgi.ebay.com/1-48-F2H-2-Banshee-Jet...1QQcmdZViewItem I believe Squadron and most other mail order places sell them. Also, since they are a standard Testors issue item, most hobby shops can order them. They are crude, but hey! all the more fun, right? Pete

My uncle had flown the Banshee with VF-11 off the Essax (CV-9) in 1958 during the Lebanon Crisis then steamed over to Formosa Straits in a show of force. He was then kia in Vietnam in 1966. j-basset
It's strange, but the F2H has really been on my mind the past couple of weeks as well, and I've been reading a lot about it... Pity there isn't a good & affordable F2H around in 1/48. Also looking for the Testors F2H myself, but it sin't listed on Squadron or GMW's web site any more. chriss7606
Ditto on what J-Bassett said. If Squadron still carried them I'd order one. E-Bay can be a good shot but the one that I saw last had quite a few bids on it. I just can't envision paying $30.00 plus for one.
Impatient Pete
I'm sure that after that one dude paid his $30 for one on Ebay, the rest of us can still pick one up for around $10. Keep an eye open at shows or ask over in the trading section (like I just did) . I have seen them recently for less than $10. Pete
Harold
I can kick myself for not keeping the master for the cockpit and seat I did way back. ARGH! Although, I think I know where the canopy master is hiding. If I can find it, that may help someone trying to "do" the Testors Banshee. It really does work into a very nice rendition of a Banshee. Cheers, Harold
Impatient Pete
Hey Harold, I'll take a Banshee canopy. I guess I'll have to place that order soon. Pete

It took me forever to get one that looked right to me. I am re-doing my work area right now, so, I may run into it. I will let you know if it turns up. Harold
