Mikeew
Hi all, Been hearing about using the nail polish remover and cotton swab technique to smooth Squadron white putty , and it seems to work well. Does anyone know if this also works with their green putty? Mike
illithid00
I had decent results when I used this technique on green putty. Be careful though, the putty shrinks, so you'll probably have to put on several coats if the area you want to fill isn't super shallow. HTH
Old Blind Dog
I've begun to use Tamiya Basic putty almost exclusively as it seems less grainy than either Squadron type and doesn't have some of the shrinkage issues (or at least doesn't shrink quite as badly as the Squadron). :D Old Blind Dog
MaRiO FDZ
Yes. Take Care
saltydog
i use a paint brush and dip it into the nail polish remover and lightly go over the area i puttied and it smooths it out very nicely. works well in wing root areas. be careful though, too many passes and it'll begin to remove the paint too. Julien (UK)
I've begun to use Tamiya Basic putty almost exclusively as it seems less grainy than either Squadron type and doesn't have some of the shrinkage issues (or at least doesn't shrink quite as badly as the Squadron).:) Old Blind Dog I find the tamyia putty great, no where near as grainy as the sqn stuff, but it does still shrink some. This also works with the nail varnish remover/acetone trick. If you want 0% shrinkage than use milliput but it takes a while to dry so not good for quicker jobs. Mikeew
many, many thanks for all the input guys. I tried it out and can report it worked fine. Must admit, I've not had many problems with Squadron stuff shrinking either with or without the nail varnish remover trick. regards, Mike
FlyingSnowmew
I also use Tamiya putty and their brand or Mr. Surfacer which both work great together!
