ARRGGGGGG!!! Eduard!!

Recommended Posts

I've been collecting some 1/72 Hasegawa F-16 kits for a little bit now that as time and money have

permitted I have bought a matching Eduard detail set for. These are the pre-painted sets that look

great to me!!

Well anyway, I just got around to starting one of the kits when I discovered the nasty little bit of plastic

surgery that has to happen in order to fit the main insturment pannel!! I mean really, cut the hood off ( carefully of course

because it has to be reused ) then cut the hood in two, add a filler and re-use??? COME ON!!!!!!!!!!! It wouldn't be so bad

if they provided a replacement hood ( for example ,like on a Fw-190) BUT NOOOOO....

Now I have at least 6 different kits with detail sets that would need this modification ! Are they all like this?

If they are I guess I'll just save up for the Aires sets......and go through the hassel ofethier selling the Eduard sets

or useing some or etc etc...

I don't recall seeing this observation anywhere so please be forwarned!!

The Hasegawa glare shield is woefully undersized. Though if you widen it, you can't close the canopy anymore (FWIW). And yes, to use the Eduard sets, they'll all need it. The earlier Eduard sets had a PE glare sheld to fold up and attach, but as I haven't bought a Hasegawa kit or Eduard set since the RoG Viper was released, I can't say whether their newer colour sets have the part or not.

It's not really a huge deal to modify though. Get yourself one of the *excellent* razor-blade saws from JLC (also being re-sold by UMM in the US, and CMK) to minimize material lost through cutting, and just lop the part off.
