What's a good *silver* spray paint? NOT aluminum/chrome/bare-metal

Recommended Posts

This is actually for model railroading, but I figure this forum deals with silver etc a lot more. :) Anyways, I need to quickly paint the frame of a locomotive silver. The 1:1 is painted silver, I don't want a shiny bare polished aluminum look. I want a "smooth silver paint" look. Not sparkly/glittery like most car paint, but also not "imitation bare metal" polished smooth. I'm modeling it as it looked new, so this is what I'm going for:

I have PS ATSF silver, but I want to spray-bomb the frame with an enamel or lacquer. Acrylic just isn't going to stick to the gloss black it currently has.

The Tamiya TS 30 (synthetic lacquer) should be exactly what you want in that case.

You could try Alclad "white Aluminium" this will go on great over a gloss black base and will give a smooth, painted silver finish. I use this for the silver doped areas on aircraft, if it's too shiny you can give it a quick blow over with a satin or matt finish varnish, (Polly Scale is great). Hope this is of some help to you.
