PaulR
Hi all, Does anybody know if RNoAF F-16AMs still carry the penguin missile as part of their inventory? Am building a model of same, and would like to add penguin missiles if possible, but can't find any pictures of F-16AMs carrying them (apart from some old pictures of the first RNoAF F-16AM in a copy of Air Forces Monthly). Would appreciate any guidance! Regards Paul
Tiger27
I have yet to see a RNoAF viper carring a Penguin. I've herd something about the AM M4 software is not compateble with the penguin. I'l mail a guy I know and ask him. Get back to you
Tiger27
Well done some reserarch and as far as I've found the current vertion of the MLU softwhare package does not include the Penguin missile. The missile is nearing the end of its service life and has not been a priority to upgrade, but weather this will happen in the future I have no idea. But pr today as far as I can gather the RNoAF F-16 MLU jets are not Penguin capeble.
thetoe17
Well, I was tooling around today and found some pictures of RNoAf F-16's carrying and firing the Penguin...so whether or not its active and possible today, here's what it would have looked like: http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/th...g_41_6255_1.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/th...g_41_6255_2.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/th...g_41_6255_3.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/th...g_41_6255_4.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/th...g_41_6255_5.jpg ...maybe they stopped carrying it because it looks so akward... :o
Tiger27
Those shots are from the initial testing of the Penguin missile back in the mid 80's . 80-3685 was one of the jets used. (this plane was destroyed in the engine test facility on june 6th, 1989,the engine caught fire and both testbuilding and plane was incinerated. no one was hurt) The tests where done and RNoAF vipers was certefied to carry and fire the penguin missile. 334th sqd was the primary user and one of the prime assignments for 334th was anti-shipping warfare. While serving with 334th back in the we often loaded the adapter/launcher for the Penguin as the missile itself was not requierd for trainingflights.
NaOH
I've read the MLU does not carry the Penguin.

Tiger27
No prob, you can do a Block 10/15 Norwegian bird and put a penguin or two on it.. The RNoAF flew the OCU's for darn close to 20 years before the MLU upgrade.
modellnorge.net
In September 1999 issue of AirForces Monthly there is an story named "Norwegian Vipers Reborn". In this story, there are several photos of F-16AM No.297 (with the "Check Six" flag markings on its tail) with Penguin missile. So there are at least one F-16AM that have flown with Penguin missiles, but if they work or not, I don't know. I have heard/read that the MLU upgrade did not contain software for penguin missiles. Probably to expensive for Norway to have this in the MLU software package, since Norway is the only one using this missile of the MLU upgraders.
