f4h1phantom
Anybody knows where to get some shots of the A-1E cockpit and rear compartment? I am building the re-released Revell kit in 1/72 and would like to add some detail in that area. TIA. Jorge.
Chris Kethan
Jorge, Try this site. It is a wealth of information. A-1E HTH, Chris
ikar
I have a copy of the A-1E-1 flight manual, that I bought for the same reason. It shows a series of options for the green house including extra fuel and litters. Or you could just leave it empty. I did one with some cartons and a few personal items including Coors in the back. If you want copies contact me with your address and I'll send the info.
drhornii
Squadron Walkaround #27 and Detail & Scale AD Skyraider (vol 67) has a few pictures but not many. Not sure if you are doing NAVY or USAF since they will differ. USAF had the Yankee extraction system later in it's career. Here are pictures of a NAVY AD-5 I took this Summer at the Tinker air show. USAF is similar but probably less seating.
f4h1phantom
Thanks a lot gentlemen for all your kind answers. I am planning to finish the model as a Navy bird and as I have already re-scribed it I think it will look pretty decent when finished. Chris: that site is just fabulous! Ikar: PM inbound. drhornii: those are real nice pics, and very helpful! Yours sincerely, Jorge.
drhornii
Thanks a lot gentlemen for all your kind answers.I am planning to finish the model as a Navy bird and as I have already re-scribed it I think it will look pretty decent when finished. . . Jorge. The aft area was re-configurable to whatever was needed. Sometimes they had medical litters, sometimes seats. As for canopy framing & structures, that all stayed the same. In my pictures, insulation blankets cover the mid window section and I believe they were uncovered on some versions. Check references. BTW, I think Hill AFB museum has an A-1E painted as USAF but was a NAVY bird painted as USAF for the museum. Maybe an ARC member around Salt Lake city may have photos. f4h1phantom
Hi drhornii, interesting at best to hear that they can change at will what's in the back. I will be doing the box supplied version for a Navy training unit (VA-122 IIRC). What do you people think would be would be most logical outfit for the rear area? Cheers, Jorge. RCoulter52
I don't know how much detail you will be attempting but, you might check out this and this.
f4h1phantom
RCoulter52, Thanks for the links. I will only be adding additional detail to the cockpit and box in the wheel wells, but I guess I will be doing that myself as the Cobra Company cockpit doesn't seem to offer a helluva lot of improvement, especially considering its price! Now that I have re-scribed the kit it looks more than decent, but I don't want to go much further as I have discovered the kit is woefully undersized. If I wanted to go all the way with a A-1E, I think I would buy one of the RVHP conversion kits. But I may also use the Falcon canopy which i have at hand, so I was very much interested in dressing the cockpit up a bit. Here's the color/markings page from the instructions: The kit decals with Microscale (not Superscale!) replacement insignia: Even a pic I found of this very same airplane in the FAOW book, although not in exactly the same markings: And the limited progress so far: Jorge. ikar
Your pictures from the A-1E-1 flight manual are on the way. You should have them this week . Too bad I can't scan and e-mal them.
f4h1phantom
ikar, sorry for all the trouble. I asked thinking you would just be able to scan and send them via e-mail. Even if I don't add too much detail to this one, I am planning on getting some of the RVHP conversions in the future so the information will be very useful. Thanks a lot for your kindness! Jorge.
